bore scope

Oh, I'm pretty sure that my $130 digital borescope won't come close to the resolution that a $1K unit can. But as I stated, I'm not a gunsmith, I'm not looking for throat crackling and such, I just want to make sure the barrel is clean and the rifling is intact when I buy a new barrel, before I spend money on chambering it.

I also know my limitations. An Hawkeye with a super fragile glass tube wouldn't survive long in my hands. I'm talking minutes not uses. So, I have the right tool for my purposes, after 3 years of use I'm absolutely certain of that.

FWIW, Upgrading to the 5.1mm head dosent help its functions,, but I think I will keep it,, mostly because I found a weird dark spot in one of my rifles that I want to figure out what it is..

Yeah, mine too....they are not near as fragile as you would think. I have had customers bend it pretty badly before I could get them stopped and it suffered no damage at all. I wouldn't recommend this kind of treatment repeatedly, but the Hawkeye will take some abuse. My biggest complaint with the Hawkeye is the ridiculous amount of money it costs to be able to take pictures and/or video with one. Good thing I really don't have to show the rest of the world what I am looking at with it. I have had several guys ask if I could post photos of barrel issues being discussed. I would really like to be able to show folks just how worthless many bore cleaners really are. The old saying..."a picture is worth a thousand words"

I have the Lyman bore cam, with the built in 90 degree mirror. Not the best BUT it will give you a good picture of what is going in the barrel.(especially carbon ring) I shoot 6mm Dasher so the 90 mirror for the Teslong would not work for me (size wise). A few years ago, I bought a bore scope that worked with my computer thru the USB port. Was less than $25 bucks. No 90 mirror, straight on view, same image as Joe had on you tube.
As rardoin said the mirror of the Lyman bore cam is not very robust, and I too have the T shirt. Must be handled with TLC when attempting to clean. I would be interested in the Teslong if a small enough 90 mirror would come with it.

My Lyman had some spots on the mirror the other day I used a lens pen the brush end and it cleaned rite up, actually it has a better pic, I amaze myself sometimes lol

You got that right I done a test the other day I shoot out of my upstairs window on a bench, my reloading room is upstairs so as soon as I shot 12 shots barrel good and hot I went to the bench with borecam ready and cleaned the barrel lol all the cleaners I had did nothing. next day J&B, clean bore so the cleaners I have are just for fowling now Isso and J&B will be my cleaners for copper and carbon

Depends what your shooting.. Hunting or less that 100 yards no big deal. 600 yards or a 1,000, well that's another story. Small amount of carbon ring can throw you off by inch's at 600.
Remember the X ring on a 600 NBSA target is about 1 1/4"

I don't care what anybody says. 6mmSteve is the "boss"!!!!!! Reloading/shooting room upstairs, where you can load up some rounds, slide open the window and shoot them.......then clean the barrel while it's still warm....dude!!!! You are T.H.E. Man!!!! That would be like if you were a pilot and you had a Leer jet in the garage!!!! I best not mention the atv in my back yard...it'll probably throw a rod!!!
I see the same thing with the cleaners...especially anything that foams up. Absolutely zero. What's funnier is when some idiot "cleans" his bore with one of them then takes out the bolt and has a "look" down the bore and tells everyone what a great job his bore cleaner does.

it only took me one time to try the cleaners mentioned on this site, but I did not try Sweets, but being real I wanted the scope to check barrels I buy mainly, but it has been written several times on this site that a bore scope will tell how cleaning a barrel is a myth. Speedy had it right for years lol.

Decided to clean up my 223 from this past weekends plinking, last night,, Wife came out at 10, wondering what I had been doing for the past 3 hours...
.
F-ing thing is gonna drive me nuts,, I bathed the dam thing 3 times with my standard nylon brush's and Boretech cleaner(s) ,, Then I got mad, and drug out the 762, and my SS brush..
.
It is decidedly as clean as it will ever be, but deep scouring revealed some random spots where it looks like potholes in the surface,
The barrel is a factory Remmy, 1:12 heavy contour, so I wasn't expecting perfection, But I believe my pothole looking anomalies are actually rust from a period where my heater quit in my safe room, .
.
Taking the next rifle to the garage tonite......

Montana BMG-50, Nylon oversize brush, wet patch, let set 5, etc. Finish with gun oil/kroll mix 70/30. Dry patch before shooting.

Donovan. Great recommendation on this borescope. I ordered the 5.5 size, it was delivered on fri and had all the accessories you listed even a micro sd card. I can't believe the resolution that this provides. Granted it's not a hawkeye, but for $130 tmd. It can't be beat. You've just saved me over $600. I put teflon tape on threads and am able to focus on the top of the lands or the bottom of the bore. I drilled the primer pocket on a culled case w/ a 5/16" bit and inserted the case in chamber. Borescope fit through opening allowing me to see the clearance at end of chamber.

Glad you like yours and agree; there a lot of bore-scope for the money... !.!.!
Like you did, I to utilize drilled out cartridge cases to physically see the clearance to the chambers case mouth, as well as for inspecting the starting area to fouling when cleaning the throat/barrel. They strongly aid to seeing and inspecting of a carbon ring.
Another plus to them is they work well as a guide for the bore-scope probes, similar as does a bore-guide for cleaning rods. Have one made up for every chamber I have.

Does the unit come with an angled mirror (90°)? How's the resolution of the angled mirror?

Here is a fairly in-depth review I did. I have the older version, but I was told they have fixed some of these issues. Mine did not have a good focal length, but an autofocus should solve this which I was told the V 2.0 has.
