Bore scope diagnosis?

So this is from the bore of a 30BR with about 1,000 rounds on it. The last time I went to the range was a couple weeks back and I always clean the rifle when I get home, except I forgot to last time. So I just did it now it sat uncleaned for 2 weeks. I figured I'd run a patch saturated in iosso and clean the bore. I thought I cleaned fairly aggressively with back and forth motion. Then ran clean patches down it.

This picture starts about 1/2 from where the freebore ends and goes about 2.5 inches or so up.

Is that for cracking, or is it carbon and still in need of a deeper cleaning? Or is it something different altogether?

I clean with hoppes and a brush and then just patch it out Normally.

Thanks fellasIMG_20250922_152450512_HDR.jpgIMG_20250922_152620988_HDR.jpg

Okay, I'll give it a shot.

Looks like carbon. You need to scrub the first 4-6" with Iosso or JB bore cleaning compound. Looks like it should clean up nice after that.
I've just read so many (what are likely BS or 3rd or 4th hand) horror stories about scrubbing with iosso and other abrasives, but if that is carbon then I clearly didn't get as aggressive as I thought. Thank you for the insight.

I like using IOSSO to scrub the carbon ring after a little soaking with CLR.

Never used flitz or looked into it. Seen it mentioned a few times on here. Think I'll be looking into it more tonight, that's for sure!
I find it very effective when I wrap a patch around worn bore brush and soak the patch a little with the green stuff, giving it ~10 full back and forth strokes + 5-6 more short strokes in the first 6-8 inches. Then I run a couple wet patched of Hoppe's (one way) to clean it up, a couple dry patches. . . and done.

Just carbon. Sounds like your cleaning regimen is about like that of most any sane person. Brush, solvent, some abrasive here and there.

I will say… boretech c4 is a killer on carbon. I don’t even follow it with CU2.

Looks to me like rough rifling from the barrel making process, with carbon hiding in the rough spots.
I bore scoped it when I first got it back from the Smith, it's a Krieger and it was pristine, so I hope that's not it. I'll get some flitz and post a other picture after.

I tend to disagree, but the OP has stated he's going to attempt to remove it. So soon we'll know if it's a deposit.
Bore scope images aren't at all easy to read for me at least. I like to see these threads play out. I always learn at least a little bit.

Nothing wrong with IOSSO but, FWIW you should not use it with a patch, which will polish….should be used with a nylon brush to agitate and break up fouling.
