Bore protection for long term storage

Ok guys.

What do you put in your bore before storing your rifle for long term 6 months to a year?

I was recently reviewing the technical article "Bore Brushing-How much is too much" and saw that a champion ran a patch of kroil through the Bore before storage.

I think kroil is a good cleaner and does good on stuck nuts, but it has not scored well on some of the salt spray testing that has been done with gun products. I'm sure this champion shoots so often it matters not in his case.

I have also used boretech eliminator with great results and it is my current go to Bore cleaner but on the bottle it states that it is a short term rust inhibitor.

Frog lube and hornady one shot CLP have tested high as lubricants and rust preventers, and are certainly great for wipeing external surfaces, but I'm not sure how squirrelly they are inside of a bore. Does the clear coat effect cold Bore shots or take more fowlers? How about bullet speed?

What say you? Kroil, Oneshot, Ezzox, Frog lube boretech?

I swab bores with a mop and WD-40 corrosion inhibitor. Great stuff, works excellently on external surfaces too. Note, NOT the same thing as regular WD-40.

Im sure you guys get this over there in the US

Both are fantastic products and what I use all year long in and on my rifle

The Fluid Film is actually a remarkable bore cleaner as well

+1 for EEZOX. I always run a patch with a few drops of EEZOX on it down the bore as the last step in my cleaning regimen.

STP works well in high humidity areas. It will break rust free also. I used to mix it with lighter weight gun oil so it wasn't so thick. It's hard to get back off but it does the job.

When I went to Viet Nam, I took the wood off my guns and wrapped them in newspaper and drenched them in automotive motor oil. When I got home and cleaned them up - absolutely no rust or bluing discoloration.

So for long term storage I use 30 weight motor oil.

I use Eezox in all my barrels, rifle, pistol and shotgun. I clean them down to bare metal and apply Eezox per instructions. I find they don't foul as much, and are easier to clean. I reapply every 200 rounds or so. After application it takes a few rounds to settle down, some more than others. Barlow
