Bore Guides?

Need to pick up a couple. Is Lucas the end all or is there some cheaper options out there that work? Im not big on cleaning anyway so it doesn't happen until accuracy deems necessary. thanks!

I have now bought 5 from Mike Lucas and they are all very nice. He seems to run them in batches so you might have to wait for his next run. Though not as pretty and in white rather than Black, I bought one from Sinclair (I believe Dewey) for about half the price and it seems pretty much the same thing. I have tried a couple of the cheap all in ones, that I have since thrown out.

Was looking at the possom hollow ones. Seem OK....a little generic on sizing. I need one for a 6.5 x 47 lapua and the sizing guide Im not sure which one to go with. Any help?

I am no expert on this, but you want the guide for the action you have and then the insert for the caliber and rod size. If using a Dewey rod, I was told to use the .22 (non-rim fire) rod, which is good through the 7mm. At least this is what I was sold by Bob White at The Shooters Corner for my Borden Action 6.5x47L.

Steve at benchrite has a few lucas guides in stock. You can use a remington br or remington 243. Tk nollan can make you an exact one for your rod action and chamber and its very nice. Cant go wrong either way.

I need a couple.....X47L, 243 and 308. I dont want to spend a ton of money on these things....hence the PH idear. I had a Sinclair for my .308s but let a friend in Texas keep it.

If you go the Lucas route, he is making a batch next month. Might be a good time to order if you don't want to wait till the next go around.

Just wish someone knew what Possom Hollow one to buy for a 6.5 x 47 Lapua with Stiller Tac30 action.

Did you talk to possum holler? As universal as their guides are you could get a remington 243 or 308. They just go into the chamber walls with o rings theyre not formed to a particular ctg

I was finally able to talk to them about an hour ago. He said the #4 would fit fine. Its for the 243. I havent read anywhere that say the PH is junk. Just people saying that Lucas is the best.....I guess if you pay that kinda money for something you should be able to say that.

Who said they was junk? The main job of a bore guide is to keep solvent out of your action/trigger. The possum guide does that. The other bore guides have sleeves for the rods to help them center in the bore with less slop. They keep solvents out of your trigger as well. None will help your bore with poor technique or bad choices in jags/patches/brushes

I have a few possum guides and they work fine for their intended purpose. Very high use guides such as for my br guns i use ivy rods and tk nollan guides. Medium use i use the lucas and use the possum guides for like hunting guns where i may only use it once a year. I use the sinclairs the same way. A wise man once told me if you can bring a brush back thru it then its not working. The nollan and lucas fit that bill.

I dont clean mine often. Only when accuracy starts falling off or if something just seems wonky. I will then clean it to take that variable out of the equation.

When I spend 4 or 5 thousand dollars on a custom build, I am not going to skimp on the bore guide or the cleaning material and supplies. Just me though. Even got talked into buy two Dewey Rods per gun so one is a brush rod and one is a jag rod and not converting adapters back and forth.
