bore guide

couldnt find a bore guide to fit my new rifle in any local gushops so orderd one online from bore tech it may take a week or 2 to get here i have to shoot my rifle a bit over the next few weeks and it will need cleaning.
i have a platic rod that doesnt bend much. if i hold it dead centre a use it gently will it be ok to clean the rifle that way just a few times.

ok have done that seems like a good idea then just chamber it like a normal round remove the bolt and clean.have i got that right.

Bore Tech makes more than one guide. I am not sure which one you have, but you want to adjust the sleeve that goes in the rear bridge of the receiver so that the rod that goes into the bolt handle slot bears on the back of the slot and creates a little sealing pressure at the front of the guide to keep solvent out of the action, then clean. Be sure to dry your chamber after removing the guide.

Did you check with Sinclair? They make some pretty good ones. Not as good as the Lucas guides, but much better than the universal style guides.

Jack: I have no problem with carefully using a cleaning rod ( one piece, coated Bore Tech or Dewey) on rare occassions, as necessary. One of those times is when I want to coat the bore with JB before going to work to remove carbon fouling. If I use my Neil Jones bore guides the majority of the JB will never make it to the surface of the bore where it's needed. It will rub off on the inside of the close fitting bore guide. I know from past experience what the position of the rod is in relation to the top of the buttplate at the rear/top of the stock and keep the rod in that same position, with the fingers holding it in place. Same procedure is used when wanting to soak down the bore with "Butch's". Bore guide is always used when brushing. Good advice to be sure your chamber is dry. A patch that is small enough to fit down the bore will be much too small to dry out the chamber, so I use an oversize patch on a short non-rotating pistol cleaning rod. if you leave the chamber "wet", you may have very hard bolt lift after firing the first few rounds-- been there, done that. ;)
