Bore guide, how far in?

I am assuming a good bore guide should not just sit on the beginning of the chamber but rather go in and stop right before the rifling. Correct?

They’re tapered. They can only go in until the cone stops at the breech face.

Yes mine has a snout with an O-ring that goes into the chamber and seals off to keep the chamber dry.

Once you go "O" ring you will never go back

That’s what I use, and it works for its intended purpose, but if I did it all over again, I would go with the PMA guide(s). With these, you just need to watch the tension of the “handle” so they it’s making its best seal on the chamber.
I think mine is Pro-Shot.

It will work fine but it will not support cleaning rod on back end like a custom one will. I do use this one you have pictured on some Savage’s, but I still put my custom rod guide on the rod and it sticks in the end of the Tipton bore guide well enough to do a good job.

I use Lucas Bore guides. Each bore guide is action/cartridge specific, and the rod guide are made to fit your cleaning rod diameter.

Not real sure of brand but yes the Oring is a special kind of material that holds it in place. Will get a pic to u tomorrow.

Universal models work but the chances of them leaking are better than the O ring exact fit models. They also get loose during use. Sinclair makes a good one. Others out there as well that are cartridge(case) specific.

I use Lucus and they are action and caliber specific, O'ring hold them in place in MOST calibers (not 30 Major).

I use the Possum Hollow brand. Most, except for the rim-fire ones, use O-rings, but NONE of mine Keep all the chamber dry. But there is only a slight residual solvent near the neck and throat of the chamber. But my last action after removing the bore guide is to clean the chamber and dry it.

Don't discount the cheaper ones that Lester Bruno sells. I love my PMA bore guides, but the cheaper option through Lester works quite well. Just specify action and caliber and he may have something that works well for you. I have three of Bruno's bore guides. They all seal good and work far better than the Tipton or any other universal bore guide.
