Bore guide for new rifle -- need suggestions

Gentlemen,

I just received my new custom 6mm BR with a BAT action. Now I would like to get a bore guide and dedicate it to this rifle. In the past I have used a Hoppe's bore guide, but for this rifle I want perhaps something better. What would you suggest? And if you could, please supply links.

Thank you in advance,
Gene Pool

Neil Jones Custom Products will make one for whatever you need. I've been using his for many years, for the Rem. 700's, Sako's & recently my Bat SV. Like others, they also use a centering button at the entry end. Most of the "one-size-fits-all" so called bore guides are of little value IMO. ;)

I have used the Lucas and the TK Nollan barrel saver. The Lukas is good, but the barrel saver is the best: http://www.benchrest.com/barrelsaver/

Don't know if it is sold, but think I saw a Lucas for your setup in the classifieds recently.

+1 for Mike Lucas - lucasmjb@windstream.net.

There were, but I think they were for a 30BR and a 6PPC (both BAT). At any rate, looks like they sold.

For a rifle like that I would order a Lucas guide. I have good luck with the Sinclair bore guides too which I use on my factory rifles. You just have to pay more attention to how you use the rod and make sure you don't bend it. They don't have a custom sized insert designed to the diameter of the rod, so there is more slop to the rod as you run it back and forth.

I have both the Lucas and Sinclair rod guides that I use with my 6PPC and 30BR respectively. To be honest, I like the Sinclair better because there's one less piece of guide that I have to fiddle with. I'm not sure my barrel knows which one I'm using, because I can't distinguish by target results, which one it prefers. I've shot zero and teen groups and hit 1/16" and 1/8" dots, using both.

Another vote for TK Nolan Barrel Saver. I had a Lucas and it was good but wore down the plastic tube that slipped over the cleaning rod. Since Barrel Saver is metal I don't think I will see this problem in my lifetime.
