Borden Action Barrel Indexing

pat fulghum

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
If I have 2 Panda actions and 2 barrels, I can swap barrels on different Panda actions and the barrel has the same headspace and barrel will index into the same position. This is actually really nice.

Is this true for Borden BRMXD actions?

You can swap barrels between Borden actions and they will headspace the same. However, they are not indexed, so any engraving/indexing/etc... will likely not end up in the same position.

You will find your Pandas are the only actions that will index the same. However, if you wanted to order 2 Bordens and told Jim you want them to index the same I bet they will.

I had heard that indexing (as a standard) was under consideration. It would be cool if that became the norm.

For engraving purposes, all that's needed is a threaded ring or similar that can be screwed onto the original barrel, marking the location of the engraving onto the ring...then thread the ring onto the new barrel and engrave the new barrel where the mark is relative to the other barrel. Very easy. Make sense?

Impact Precision told me their actions index (as well as headspace) the same. Just checked and they state so on their website as well. --Jerry

Ok, few shoot R #17, sound like you are going to have to work off of the Alliant suggest loads, but accuracy will be near the top.

Here is a site that may help you:

My own personal data with Remington 700's is with IMR 4350 from 41.5g-43g, Winchester or Rem 9 1/2 primers with 95g Nosler ballistic tips and Nosler 95g partitions, using Winchester or Remington brass. Accuracy is outstanding with this powder and bullets. R #17 loads are going to be close to these IMR 4350 loads, refer to the Alliant web site.

Good luck
