Books on shooting pistols ...

Are there any good books available that cover shooting pistols? Looking at a book that covers techniques and concepts.

You didn't say exactly what level or direction(s) you wish to explore, so we'll throw a few out there.

For the basics, the booklet that is given to students in the NRA Basic Pistol Marksmanship course. This one is a good place to start:

For more combat oriented shooting, after mastering the basics;

Basic Marksmanship With The Modern Handgun, Lt. Colonel Lyman P. Davison and Lawrence A Severson, National Law Enforcement Institute.

StressFire, Gunfighting For Police: Advanced Tactics and Techniques, Volumes I and II, Massad Ayoob, Police Bookshelf, Conord, NH.

No Second Place Winner, William H. (Bill) Jordan - but you want to ignore Bill's advice on throw-away guns; it's from a different era, lol.

And a real oldie but goody, still in print, Fast and Fancy Revolver Shooting by Ed McGivern. It has some techniques that are as valid today as they were decades ago when Ed wrote the book, whether shooting a revolver or a semi auto.

The "Bible" for the US Army Pistol Teams, written by Bill Blankenship in the early 60's.

Depending on your particular pistol shooting interests:

Absolutely the best ever written especially for bullseye beginners - written by one of the greatest bullseye shooters of all time.

There is a wide difference between target pistol shooting and combat pistol shooting. Proper position and stance, how the pistol is held in the hand (grip) aiming, breathing, proper methods for engaging the target, and trigger control are not the same for both types of pistol shooting. Trying to find a book that covers both disciplines properly is, IMO, an impossibility.
