Book of Wildcat Cartridges???

Besides "Cartridges of the World" and "Wildcat Cartridges" is there any other GOOD books specifically for Wildcat cartridges? Even a compilation of Reamer Prints? If so what's the best and where can I get one? The "Wildcat Cartridges" book by Fred Zeglin is always sold out or very expensive.

Are you looking for history, or specs, or load data, or just general information? It's a vast subject that could never be fully covered in one or two books.

Does the somewhat generic title Wildcat Cartridges book you refer to mean Wolfe Publishing's Vol. 1 & 2 which are a good compilation of older Handloader magazine articles? The Donnely book was kinda sketchy when first published, an A- for effort but a C for accuracy, it doesn't seem to have been corrected in later editions. Ken Howell's book is a gem.

There are others which are dated but still may be the only source for some data. Yours Truly, by Harvey Donaldson, Phil Sharpe's Complete Guide to Handloading among others. Landis' 22 cal Varmint Rifles, or Woodchucks & Woodchuck Rifles are historically interesting. Elmer Keith's Big Game Rifles has some vintage wildcat information. Wolfe had a skinny but interesting book on Rocky Gibbs & his wildcats, maybe still available.

Back issues of Handloader or Precision Shooting magazine are chock full of interesting stuff from reader questions in the front to propellant profiles in the back. I believe Wolfe has/had a comprehensive index to their magazines for more precise info if looking for something in particular. Fleabay could be your friend, Amazon has information but is generally inflated by a lot unless you can be patient watching & waiting.

Howdy !

P.O. Ackley authored a 2 columne treatise he titled “ Handbook for Shooters and
Reloaders “. Within the voumnes, he listed info on a whole host of wildcats; including some of his designs. ,, Ackley also educates the reader on topics like “ ideal case capacity “,“ ideal bore capacity “, “ over bore capacity “; and much more. It’s a good read !

Meanwhile…. check THIS out:
Salw.lv/materials/catalogues/en/7.data-base-of-munitions

- At the website…. IF you see a button labeled “ 7.data-base-of-munitions “ , select it.

- 9 different catalogues are presented.
Last on the catalogues list is a button titled “ Rifle Ammunition “. Select it.

- The rifle ammunition catalogue is 720 pages long.
* .17 caliber stuff starts about pg 88 *

- Please note: the author is Latvian, and provides a “ translate “ button; if needed.

Many wildcats have a pic to go along w/ abbreviated info about the case(s).

With regards,

there is a guy just posted a link to Precision Shooting magazine. issues from 1960 on

One book that I peruse alot is The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions by John & Judy Donnelly.

Doesn't show reamer specs or loads, but does give how to convert from which parent case.
