Bolt won't close on new brass

Update:

I got the Hornady dies in today and immediately went to the shop to try them out. I lubed about 8 brass and resized the first one after setting the die according to Hornady's instructions. Tried the brass in the rifle and noted no change. I tried a couple more pieces and got the same result. Finally, I tried a different piece of brass and got the bolt to close with a little force. When I extracted the brass, I noticed a shiny spot on the rim. Next, I removed the extractor from the bolt and every piece of brass I tried chambered and the bolt closed very easily.

Now, what to do about the extractor?

When I changed the bolt head from .223 to .308, I used the old .223 extractor. MSTrophyHunter told me to put a .308 extractor in it. Presto! IT WORKS!!!!!!! I'll hopefully be shooting Wednesday!

jb, I've enjoyed following this thread. I've learned a few things. I would have thought the shoulder bump would have cured it. I also did not know when you do a bolt swap that the ejectors are different. That was a good catch on MSTrophyHunter's part. Good info from all on here.

I didn't know either and never would have guessed it! I actually found it by mistake but wasn't sure what to do to correct it. The .308 extractor is shorter since the .308 rim is larger in diameter. I guess I assumed the hole for the extractor was drilled in a different location on the bolt faces, but apparently they just use a longer extractor for the smaller rim.

Yes, that was good info for me also.
It may be the solution for a similar problem I'm having.
