Bolt or trigger issue?

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
I have a #12 Savage Target action, Shillen barrel, in 6Dasher. Most accurate rifle I've ever had.

I began getting light primer strikes.
I took the bolt apart and cleaned, lubed it.

Put it back together, inserted in rifle. The firing pin drops when bolt is closed. I double checked my assembly, it's all good.

It could be a trigger issue I guess, but how did that happen?

Full disclosure, I had used a chamber plug and filled the bore with C4. The plug failed and all the C4 leaked into the action. Could this be the issue in the trigger? Bolt has been throughly cleaned.

I know Savage doesn't get much love here, but I really need help.

Not sure about the target Accutrigger- but on the standard Accutrigger it will slamfire on bolt close if pull weight is adjusted below design minimum.

Remove the barreled action from the stock and rinse the trigger assembly good with lighter fluid and blow dry. Work the bolt. If the trigger still does not hold turn the trigger adjustment screw clockwise 1/8 turn at a time until it holds. If this does not work the problem may be in the bolt.

Trigger has not been touched.
I set it at 12oz when new. It's never given me trouble.
Maybe some C4 got in there and screwed something up.
I'm sure it's not the bolt as I've cleaned it several times before without issue.
I think I'm going to have to take it apart and clean/inspect the trigger.

Maybe hose the trigger assembly good with brake cleaner.

The protrusion of the firing pin can be adjusted but it can be tricky.

Cleaning the trigger is my next step.
Why would I need to adjust the firing pin? The issue is the pin falling on bolt closure.

I was typing a post when your message came in, yes, probably the trigger and possible some carbon or other from the C4 entered the trigger housing. Best guess, the problem lies in the safety area, those clearances are critical.

it was the “I began getting light primer strikes.” then not staying cocked after bolt was cleaned.

pin dropping on closing the bolt likely trigger assembly.

When you say 'beginning to get like primer strikes' I take that to mean you are getting FTF occasionally but not having to raise the bolt handle and close it to get it to drop the pin on the second try?
*IF* what I described above is correct, I'd replace the firing pin spring at least and the pin as well myself just to be sure those bases are covered. You'll need to check pin protrusion if you replace the pin.
If you have to raise and lower the bolt handle to get it to fire and IT NEVER MARKS THE PRIMER THE FIRST TIME, clean your trigger assembly as described in post #4.

Fixed it. I tore the trigger apart and cleaned it. But before disassembly, I noticed that wasn't actually cocking all the way. I did the trigger than went at the bolt...again. I didn't do anything different than previous teardown & cleanings but now everything is good. ????? I'm guessing something was in the trigger assembly stopping it from fully engaging the sear.
