Bolt on recoil lug for Tikka r3

Good Day All
I was wondering has anyone ever considered drilling and tapping the lug recess on a tikka action and bolting a recoil lug to it, similar to some of the bats, bordens and barnards
I'm no Gunsmith or engineer but was curious to see if this would improve the the lug system
Thanks

Most of the Bats, such as their M Action that have the bolt on lug are substantially larger in diameter than the Tikka, giving more wall thickness for a thread,

The Tikka appears to be a little too thin to accomadate much of a thread length.

I looked at doing this on the Tikka's I've bedded and came to the same conclusion as Jackie. Even when moved out to the edges, there's just not much receiver thickness for a decent thread depth. What I've done on the T3's and T3X's is to use a Mountain Tactical replacement lug and epoxy that into the action with JB Weld. Open up the recoil lug mortise in the stock and bed it normally. FWIW, the T3's came with an aluminum lug and the later T3X's have a steel lug. The factory steel lug isn't that great.

I put together a Tikka 300wsm for a guide friend of mine and I had the tapered part of the front of the action faced off and used a PTG recoil lug that matched the action shape. I really liked the way it turned out, shot really well too

I also have faced the receiver and installed a Rem recoil lug on two of my Tikkas. I kept the factory lug for belt-and-suspenders. They turned out great and shoot fantastic.
