Bolt head

I ordered a ptg bolt head for my model 14 wsm. The mag ptg bolt head i ordered from midway is different. Mine has a groove that kicks the shell out at the back of the action. does anyone make a bolt head like mine that has been machined and trued up like ptg

Call stockade stocks as he builds gazillions of savage rifles and may be he can aid you with this question. It sounds like you want a bolt head with an ejector built into the head like ,say, a .308 bolt head which starts ejecting once the case clears the forward part of the receiver opening.

Sounds like your stock bolt head is a controlled round push feed and it uses a fixed, standing ejector. Does it look like this?

You can remove the standing ejector from your action and use the newer push feed style bolt head from PTG if you want. I think the firing pin diameters are different though so you'll want to double check that your current firing pin will work on the new bolt head.

Thanks guys. Yorketransport that what I have. I guess beings the bolt head is already thicker than ptg i will just use the factor one. Was going to upgrade just cause of the factor one not being machined and a little softer

Savage switched to the CR push feed style for certain chamberings when they started chambering the RUM and WSM cases and they made them thicker at the same time.

Remember, if you go with the PTG bolt head you'll need to double check your headspace. I had to trouble shoot a problem gun for a guy who couldn't figure out why he was getting light firing pin hits and failure to fires. He swapped out bolt heads and his new headspace was .005 too long.
