Bolt handle swap

I have a new bolt handle for my #12 Savage. I watched the video on bolt disassemble, it shows decoding before removal.
How are you supposed to cook it again to reinsert it? Or....
Do you HAVE to decoction it just to swap the handle?

There are a couple of ways to cock the bolt.
First put the little nub on the edge of your bench, push down and twist the bolt to cock.
Second, and some will scoff, place the lugs gently but firmly in your vice (just the lugs) and rotate the bolt handle to cock. Really not as hard as some make it out to be.
I can cock and uncock in my hard plastic bolt protector.

De-cock in receiver (clear weapon).
Loosen BAS a little.

Cock, remove bolt from receiver.
Now loosen BAS some more to relieve spring pressure.

When putting back together just start BAS, cock, tighten BAS a little more.
Insert cocked bolt and tighten BAS.

I'm not sure that the information in your video is accurate. I don't recall having to cock or de-cock the bolt during disassembly or reassembly. I only have one Savage that I built from collected parts so I may have something aftermaket, but I believe the hex-screw that holds it all together is long enough to deal with a cocked firing pin.

I wasn't completely accurate. If you have a bolt with cocking indicator you need to decock to get the allen wrench in to work the BAS. With the old style the allen socket is always there.
