bolt gap

does anybody have any information on the gap on a 700 receiver and bolt. My present bolt has a gap of.039", my others are .019". I was told my bolt handle needs to be removed and move forward. Due to the problem of shell ejection may occur. I know who to contact if welding is needed. I just had a new Krieger barrel put on in 6BR.. I have not fired or broke in the barrel yet. Guess I will see what happens when I go to the range this week. Any information will be much appreciated! thanks, nilebartram

If you know the person to contact, do so. That gap is a bit much. Primary extraction will suffer. On your caliber, its not as much as a concern but if you have the time, get it retimed.

Dans40X on this forum is skyscrapers above anybody in knowing what is correct and tig welding them properly. Lapua40X, I don't think the bolt shroud comes into play in what he is asking.

When I have had Dan re-weld bolt handles for me the gap between the handle and the action was between .008" and .014".
