Bolt Fluting

Impact Actions say their bolt is fluted in a way that leaves the bottom part smooth and no flutes contact the cartridge when the bolt is cycled. I'm looking for someone that can flute a Defiance bolt this way.

Boltfluter won’t do it.
If so it’s likely because with a spiral flute it wouldn’t really make any difference as to fully fluted or partially fluted. If it were straight fluted then yes skip some flutes on the bottom if you want to get rid of the ratchet feel when closing the bolt.

The bolt on an Impact action doesn't have straight flutes.

I don't think I would have interest in either of those. I would like to have something with a groove angle, depth, and width similar to grooves on a Surgeon bolt. Wouldn't mind if there were about twice as many grooves as a Surgeon has.

Edd,
So you are looking for a very shallow flute, depth wise. Probably just on the front of the bolt where it shows in the loading port and no flutes on the bottom. Correct?

That sounds correct.

I would describe them as shallow and narrow with the surface between them being about the same width, maybe slightly wider, as the flute.

And no flutes on the surface of the bolt that would contact the cartridge in the magazine as the bolt handle is raised and lowered or when the bolt is moved rearward and forward.

Numbers are meant to make my desires more clear and not meant to be absolute dimensions.
Flutes would be 1/32-1/16" deep, 3/32" wide, and spaced 1/8" apart.

Those are good looking girls just not my type.
Thanks Eds. Just curious as too what is your aversion to flutes on the bottom? The flutes you are talking about are very very shallow and quite narrow. I doubt you could even feel them working the bolt. Not being smart, just curious is all.

I think it is a design quality issue. I think the cartridge should be in contact with a smooth surface.
