bolt face sizes

Ive got a few questions, i inherited a rem 700 originally chambered for 300 win mag , then it was rebarreled for a 300 wsm which is a short round using a long action bolt.

1. If i was going to have a 300wsm i would rather have a short action. so what are my options for a long action tac driver using this action (doesnt have to be .30cal)

2. is using a shell holder chart an accurate means of determining bolt face size and cartridge compatibility?

3. can i swap just the bolt made for a 30 06 since its already a long action?

4. what are your thoughts on accuracy for a short cartridge e.g. 300wsm in a long action

thks

You could do wild cartridge like the 7 STW.

Sure, I'd still back it up with a diagram or something to make sure it's actually .335" or whatever.

It allows you to potentially increase accuracy by allowing you to load bullets out farther closer to the rifling and still fit in the magazine.

If you are planning to turn it into a target type gun, leave the bolt and do one of the 7mm short magnum rounds (since you'll change the barrel anyway). There very popular with the f-class crowd.

I assume it's a stalker right now. What is the planned use?

The .300 wsm is a fine cartridge designed for a short action. You can use a long action and seat the bullets out etc. I have a friend who has 2 of them on the model 70 action.I shot it at 500 yards in a 25 mph wind.I still shot a 5 inch group.I would suggest a muzzle brake to tame the recoil though as it has a hefty little kick I dont like.

ive got a heavy .308 i use for tactical competitions, its pretty heavy and it kicked my butt on recent oryx hunt. So what ill use this one for will be a medium weight hunting/tactical comp rifle. I am looking at the 7wsm and the 300wsm, I like the 30 cal because im pretty versed in it and think Ill get more barrel life .vs a 7mm. However I really like the accuracy and great bullets there making in 7mm or .284.

thks for the replies
