what on average is the width of the 06 bolt face on the custom actions in general.i understand its .473 for the 06 cases but what is the max to min that would be allowed to be concidered safe

Are you speaking of the bolt nose counterbore that is found in actions such as the Remington 700 and most customs?

If so, that has nothing to do with the safety of the action. It simply has to be a correct diameter to allow for efficient extraction and easy ejection.

Many controlled feed actions such as the 98 Mauser do not even surround the case head completely.

Bolt face dimensions are usually referenced as a diameter like the rim diameter of the case itself.

To allow for clearance, the '06 bolt face is usually 0.480" in diameter for the 0.473" rim. Note the chamfer which helps center up the case rim when loading a cartridge.

ok thank you.so the case head when it is pushed into chamber will be in the center of the boult counter bore .

i have a chamber cut for the lapua 6mm br necked to 22 br case.will it be safe to fire the 6mm br remington cases in it being there is a differance in the diamater of the said csaes at the datum area.am just asking i have a bunch of the remington cases

I didn't have any problems with my 22 Br using Rem 6mmBr cases. Course, I have both the short neck and long neck cases (I used the long neck cases--didn't need the extra .040" or so extra neck area exposed using shorter cases).

They may puff up a little at the base, but no other problems...
