Bolt face modification 17CCM to 17 Hornady Hornet

The Cooper Model 38, 17CCM rim measures .309. The rim on the 17 Hornady Hornet measures .350. Is it possible to modify the bolt face on the CCM to fit the 17 Hornady Hornet.

Possibly setting back the existing barrel and re-chambering or chambering a fresh barrel.

Thanks, Bill.

The extractor is the weak link, its a rim fire essentially and the modification will cause it to break in a short order. The real crux then is finding an extractor for 20 year old rifle that isn't made anymore.

I think you would be money ahead just to build a 17 hornet on a CZ 527. Or just sell the Cooper and buy one with the proper boltface.

So they are both rimmed cases, both are centerfire and both are reloadable but the extractor on the .309 case team would have to have metal removed to hold and chamber the .350 Hornady case head and still clear the chamber.

As well as the bolt face itself would have to be opened up another .040 for the 17 HH case head?

Since it’s considered a collectible gun, why not sell it to someone who’s interested in that chambering and then use the money to buy a rifle already chambered in .17 Hornet?

And you’d also have to modify the bolt stop slot (or however it’s set up) to give enough bolt throw to accommodate the longer cartridge.

Just sell the gun and buy a .17 Hornet.

Parting with the little Cooper is probably the most practical thing to do. It’s just hard to let go of such a fine firearm. But to butcher it would be a crime in itself. I have no idea of its value or even where to find a value on it. Thanks for the advice. Bill.
