Which bolt face is used for these calibers, and what other calibers can be used with each particular bolt face...

.17 Remington

.204 Ruger

.223 Remington

.243 W

.308 W

What about 220 Swift, 22-250, and .224 Valkyrie?

Swift and 22-250 are .473". The Valkyrie is .440" and not interchangeable with with a big variety of cartridges.

I know Valkyrie and 6.8 are the same, just didn’t know what else is .440.

The Valkyrie and the 6.8 SPC have a rim diameter of .422. The PPC and Grendel cases are .445.

I just measured three cases..

6.8 SPC......417
.224 Valkyrie....417
22-250....464

How can we be this different?

Correct...same as 6.8..... .417

I always thought the rim diameters were the same or at least close to SAAMI specs until I had a batch of Remington 300RUM brass that wouldn't eject from my Remington 700. They were .008-.010 smaller than spec. They graciously replaced them and the new batch was only .001 larger. Figured out my extractor needed replaced! Whoops! Guess the rule of thumb is most of these companies work off minimum specs instead of max. They might benefit legally that way but not beneficial for the most part for the gunsmiths and us reloaders. I know that, but what bolt for said rim size? Is a .17Rem the same bolt as a .222 or a .204? How many bolt sizes from .17 Rem up to .220 Swift?

.17 through .222 Remington Magnum and 5.6X50mm Magnum are same face- . 378" nominal.
Rimmed cases in this range vary.

.22-250 through .30-06 generally are .473" with a few variations.
Again, rimmed and some military are different.

PPC, WSSM and Weatherby cartridges usually don't fit in the above ranges.

Just forget the 6.8spc and valkyrie size. Its way too far out of norm and will never survive. That leaves you with 223, 308 and magnum sizes. Throw a ppc boltface in on a custom action and that covers everything anybody needs to build on. Yes the 17rem/204/223 is the same. The 22-250/243/308/30-06/br all share the same size but in different length actions then you have the magnums in short and long action. So 3 boltfaces in 2 length actions cover anything that should be messed with in a factory action.
