Bolt face depth for 223 Rem

For those shooting 223 bolt guns... what is the *measured* depth of your bolt face (assuming a recessed bolt face like a Savage or Remington)?

Remington mean dimension is .150" from bolt nose to breech face & same from nose to fwd surface of bolt lugs.
I don't do Salvages.

F Class Panda = .115" approx
Borden BRM = .125" approx

Savage 0.125" from bolt face.

Is that measured, or nominal?

The reason I ask is that I have been pretty used to 0.125" being nominal for .308 Win on Savage actions. The odd-ball out for me was a PTG bolt with no ejector - it was 0.119", which caused me a fair amount of grief because that was the *one* time I swapped bolts without re-headspacing. Go figure.

More recently, I went to screw a new barrel down on a PTG .223 bolt head, and couldn't even get contact on a NO-GO gauge, much less a GO gauge. Measured the bolt face at 0.128" using the tail of my calipers. Then I went back and checked three factory bolt heads (of varying vintages), which range from 0.110" to 0.115", and I have no problem achieving proper head space using those.

So hopefully you can see why I ask... are you *sure* that 0.125" is what it actually measures?

I'll say, nominal, as you stated with your experience with .308 Win., I found the same, and that factory chambers are or were cut to that magic number for years, through all cartridges.

I'm not near an action or bolt at this time but will check the measurements and follow up.....
