Bolt action muzzle brake

What brake do you use on your gun? I have looked at the FTE, vias, and a few others. What is your favorite for shooting prone?

Keep one thing in mind. Holes in the bottom of the brake kick up alot of dust, dirt, and snow. Always blocks your view, unless you can throw a tarp or something else down.

Tubb T2K, does not kick up dust, is very effective at recoil reduction, and its tunable, when I do load development I have it tuned all the on, with a slight cant to the left, I adjust only my powder charge until single digit spreads happen, then I turn it out one turn at a time to shrink the groups, when there as small as they can be I play with seating depth to finish off development, I have one on my 308 and 260, soon a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel and in the future a 6 competition match barrel will have T2K brake.

I just ordered mine from Harrell's Precision and haven't seen it yet but I couldn't recommend anyone better to talk to on the other end of the phone!! They make both kinds( timed and untimed) out of 416 ss for $30 shipped:)

I have two Harrels, straight up good people there, brakes work great and are very reasonable in price, I had Dennis who works there install them, he did a great job and also a great guy.

I've got two and about in get a third, I use a three port Ross Schuler on my 6mm. it's so I can see the misses and learn from them. I have a four port, Muzzlebrakes and more on my 300wm. It is the cats butt for the light barreled hard kicking mag. Both those guys are close to me, and brake and install is about $100, just a tad more for the thread protector for the 6mm so I don't have to buy hearing aids for my coyote calling buddies. Those guys will treat you right.

I went one step better the brake I have on all my guns has a tuner built one it then you have tuning ability along with recoil reduction .Bostromgunsmith sell and install them. R.A.S tuner it comes up on the on the home page. if not go to Bostromgunsmith and they have article on how they work and how to tune them Good Shooting Larry

Not to mention driving away the guy shooting at the bench next to you! Not just the noise but the concussion from the brake!

the all time best ever 5 shot LG group at 600 yds was shot with a gun using a brake,,,,the competitors didnt seem to mind,,IBS and NBRSA is where they are commonly used,,,,any long range competitive shooter doesnt even notice those around using them,,,,(he prolly has one on the end of his bbl.,,,,even on a lil' 6mm!!??..wink) I think Rodney was using a VAIS,,,,I have several Harrells and they work perfect,,,Roger

I would think if it got in your competitors mind that would be an advantage! As long as everybody plays by the same rules...There is a lot of shooters that hate brakes and I would guess there all shooting lite recoiling guns. I have decided on a 300 win mag for my next gun build or current and why wouldn't I want a brake on it?

I had two made by KDF. They didn't stock brakes for the Tikka T3 Tac, so they made them for me. One for the .223 and one for my .308. Nice, and they seem to annoy the guy next to me just about right.

Does anyone have an email address for Harrels? I would like to order a brake and prefer to communicate by email so I can be sure of what is passed on.

take a look at witt machine brakes. they don't have holes on the bottom to kick up dust ( not much of a snow problem here in oklahoma)

Harrels wants you to call them 540-380-2683 so they can further answer your question and theirs.... Harrels also makes a timed brake if you are scared of dust!

I ended up going with Harrell's because they were able to answer my questions, asked how I planned on using it, and what caliber it was to be lathed with an appropriate brake. They said they would thread it and send it over to me with an invoice. That level of service to match your product with their correct product is rare in today's retail environment. I should have it in hand tomorrow.
