BOG Death Grip Tripod

Thanks for the detailed replys, sure makes a decision easier.

Looks like I'll be ordering the ball-head conversion from Little Crow GW soon, as they offer a complete converson kit. The DeathGrip tripod looks to be a good piece of kit, but in its original form lacks easy field leveling as has been noted. Seems the maker should address this shortcoming and offer their own ball-mount in the assembly or at least as an option.

Rick, you can decide later on which of your rigs and stocks can be fit with a piece of PIC rail or ARCA rail so that you can run without the big clamp. That clamp is great for universal use, but it is bulky compared to using a small piece of rail.
 
Not sure if anyone is still reading this post, but I contacted BOG CS and asked if they offered a ball-head for their Death Grip Tripod. Answer: "No, but there's some out there that'll work, but if you use one, it will void your warranty". Great.

Feeling they should incorporate a system to be able to level the rifle no matter where it's pointed, but do not, I ordered the complete conversion from Little Crow GW. Thanks to RegionRat and Coyotefurharvester for the tip; most appreciated. :)

****I have been working on a printed bushing to replace the aluminum one for a few reasons. Main one being availability, I can print these like any of my other items so sourcing is not an issue. I can also pass the cost savings on to you guys and a little more weight reduction. I will be working on a printed adapter plate in the future also. I wanted to make sure the integrity and strength were both still very sound so I adjusted materials and design until I got it right. ***** There will be nothing new to installation, a dab of Loctite is still highly recommended on...

I have this. Worked great. Have switched back to the original head because a couple rifles i use i didn't want to add arca on

I'll be using some of my Cooper rifles so will retain the OEM clamp, as I do not want to add rails or anything to that nice Claro walnut.

It seems to me that BOG should allow for leveling no matter where the rifle is pointed. Having to add another $150~ to make the thing work properly seems wrong to me, and should have been addressed by them prior to release to the shooting public.

Seems like an excellent unit for the intended purpose, just not complete when it leaves the factory in original form.

I did this and added the arca rail to the bottom of the OEM clamp. Lets me lock in the rails on my equipped hand guards and clamp in my traditional stocks. Works pretty well and lets me level it out with the ball head.
 
Well, the closing chapter of this foray is complete. I received the ball mount head conversion assembly from Little Crow GW and could not be more pleased. Got it all converted and installed yesterday.

My ground squirrel and rockchuck season is now over with the hot summer weather, but the completed tripod unit with the ball head now allows easy leveling and full 4th axis rotation, and is now smooth as silk when compared to the OEM version. Come spring of 2026, it'll get a real workout.

Thanks again to Region Rat and coyotefurharvester for the tip. Now this geezer doesn't have to try to shoot my varmints prone over high grass and the arduous task of getting back up. Laugh if you want, but when/if you get to my age, anything to make it easier seems like a good idea to keep it going for as long as one can.

A bit spendy, but if it allows me to shoot comfy and accurately, it's a good thing in my book. Besides, it's only money, right?
 
Never liked the Bog Death Grip I bought, it never held a tapered BA stock very well. I did find a great use for it and it makes leaving on a hunting trip much easier. I made it into an adjustable stand for my wife to make wreaths and ristas.
