Boelube 70104-04 - My new favorite cutting oil

I’ve got a gallon of the dark Rigid sulphur stuff that I just cracked into…once it’s gone, I’m going to try something else. It’s not just the shop but my clothes too, my wife has now designated shop clothes because she cannot wash them with other stuff.

On the plus side, I bet I’d never deal with chiggers :p

I don’t have a flush system yet but it’ll likely come at the same time, I guess I’ve put it off too long.
Dark cutting oil stains the lathe up pretty nasty.

There was an episode of Dirty Jobs, where a pig farmer got all the scraps from Las Vegas. He had a rather large rendering tank and said he skimmed the oil off the top and sold to cosmetic manufacturer. That's probably the feedstock for this new fangled cutting oil. I wouldn't get it in your mouth.

There seems to be a number of different Boelube products, which one did you use?

That shows the machine has been used,,,,, with a good cutting oil. Mine is stained too. It gets used. Not there to be "pretty". It is a 'tool'. It makes me money. Dark threading oil and Tap Magic Pro Tap W/EP Extra. Used as flood coolant/lub and in the muzzle flush. The way oil is for the CNCs with their automatic lubricating systems. The ways on this manual lathe get plenty of lub, just from the cutting oils I use. I darned sure don't worry about rust!

Speedy mentioned this stuff in one of his videos. I'm a sucker for shiny objects and got some. It's really nice. Kind of a low viscosity and wipes off the hands very easily. It's made of "cosmetic" ingredients, so I feel a lot better about it on my skin, etc. Leaves a beautiful finish. I did a chamber with it and it was among the best. I've drilled, reamed, sawed, reamed, etc. A little goes a long way. I really like it.

If you want a half ounce bottle I'll send one for a few bucks to cover shipping.
I have some to try
I have to get a new 338 barrel going soon and will report back.

I did also get some of the red hard gel and it’s nice for drilling holes.

I don't think I want to mess with water based stuff.
Reason being?
I don't use water based at home, because I don't do a muzzle flush, or all that much chambering, for that matter.
At work we have been using Trim Microsol 585XT water soluble coolant for about 8 years. In my time there they have tried probably 6 or more other coolants (after we decided that Hangsterfers S500 HAD TO GO), and 585 is the best yet.
I'm not a huge fan of fungicide. All you need to do is keep the tramp oil minimized, and run a little aquarium aerator in it.
Most of my experience is with tanks in the 150-600 liter size range, so might not necessarily cross over to wee tanks that well.
Just my $0.02.

It would be hard/not worth it to run water based on my lathe, the way I have the chamber flush set up. I want to keep that oil.

I would like to run water based at the mill... but maintaining it seems like a real pain in the backside.
