Check with your local law enforcement, they might have "used" you could buy at a bargain, if not they know the brand they want and the one they may be wearing may not be the same thing.

Some things to think about... Body armor is hot in the summer big time and depending on what you want , heavy... Simple pistol protection isn't horrible but if you want 5.56 it's a different story and rifle is everywhere now... One thing is sweat is hard on them over time so in my opinion buy new.. Price is depending on what level of protection you want and I suggest buying from a reputable company... There is tons of videos on YouTube and even more information from companies like second chance armor...Which is what I like , cheap it is not though... It is kinda like your life dependeds on it.... Get spall protection on AR 500-550 and the pads that keep it from hitting you like a sledgehammer are cheap and worth it... Without spall protection and steel plates , well anyone that's shot steel knows the bullet frags in all directions , not good.... Ceramic plates are nice but steel will work... I seriously suggest spending sometime reading pros and cons before buying.... I think your in central Texas Josh I am also , if so the summer will be brutal...

Talk to your old neighborhood street cop, if you have one and see what he tells you. Most likely he can direct you to a shop, one they use, to make your purchase.

Josh have ya been monkeying around w/another
monkeys monkey???? LDS
Nah, I just loaded my wife’s 12 guage shotgun for self protection. She has macular degeneration and is 80% blind. I’m thinking...... .........and I saw a really cool vest in Wyoming, with mag pockets all over the front.... my birthday is coming up and the kids want to get me something. I just thought it would be cool. One last item on my bucket list. Always wanted one. Thought, maybe.....

Start with picking what you want to defeat. When making this decision do some serious sole searching as to how much weigh you can actually bear and still maneuver and not damage yourself. Go to Ferros page and measure yourself. Once you find plates THEN order your plate carrier, the carrier is sized to the plates, the cummerbund is sized to you.

My current setup has shooter cut level IV plates at 7.3# each. I won’t wear steel unless there are no other option. Two plates, plate carrier, mag shingle, 3x 30 rounds AR mags with 28 rounds each, 1 4” knife is 21# and that’s before a radio, med pouch, pistol mag and a flashlight. All in I’ll be around 25# with no water, no side plates and no pack. Not gonna lie, it hurts after a few hours and I’m a fairly fit guy that spends a good amount of time under a 25-40# pack. I can get 6x9” plates for about $100. Add another few pounds unless I go soft at a lower level.

After doing more research, wearing other guys kit and spending time shooting pistol, carbines and prone LR as well as some light hiking I’m going poly level 3+ Multi curve next go around. Plates are Half the weight and defeats all but large caliber armor piercing. They are also don’t sink like stones. Costs is about $400 more than my current stuff and won’t defeat 30 cal AP but my back and knees have a much higher chance of damage than someone poking holes in me with 30-06 AP. I know there’s lots of 30-06AP out here but I’m gonna take a chance that those won’t be pointed my way.

Crye makes some nice level 3 soft armor but you’ll probably have to wait a bit and get ready to break out the checkbook. That said, what’s your life worth?

Yep w/a 80% sight loss I'd wear it. Of course that will give her a very solid defense if ya do get shot. JUST SAYIN. LDS

Which one did you get?
rise 2.0 level 3a.
I need it to fit under my uniform when I wear one. Since Im plainclothes 99% of the time during my regular duty I have a tactical level 3 vest w/ ceramic plates I wear then or if something bad happens.

I would not feel safe in a vest, plate carrier with level 3+ plates at minimum. PE plates just over 3 lbs each are becoming obtainable and even in stock some places.
