Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters held the 3rd Leg (HV100/200) of the Annual Bob Dorton Memorial 4-Gun this last Saturday at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in the heart of the Ione Triangle. We only had a 5 shooters who were able to make it to the shoot, some of our regulars who had family events to attend were missing, as I mentioned in the last post we need to rethink this scheduling matches on a Holiday weekend.
Those in attendance were greeted by fairly mild conditions to start the 100 yd portion of the match, with a few nice groups including the one by Bill Costanza who returned to the fray with a nice .166 in Match 2 winning small group of the yardage.
Greg Wilson shot 3 1's, a 2 & a small 3 to win the HV100 with a nice .2288 agg, Jeff Rodriguez 2nd with a .2566,
Steve Epstein 3rd with a .2884.
We moved to 200 and things started getting spicy. The breeze picked up and started giving us our typical switchy tailwind mostly out of the SW, but enough reverse from the SE to make you pay attention. That SE flow looks so steady and inviting that you are tempted to try it but it never lasts long enough to finish your group and never seems to come back for you.
The big issue at 200 was mirage and seeing your shots. It was that condition where you keep hoping that hole that's getting darker means they are going in the same vicinity. I was just trying to shoot the mirage flow and pray!
I shot small group at 200yds in Match 2 with a nice .364 parlaying that into a yardage win with a .4340 agg. Steve took 2nd with a .4552, and Jeff (why did I switch rifles) Rodriguez finishing 3rd at .4741 by shooting small groups in Match 3-5 after shooting a shotgun pattern in Match 2 before switching back to the rifle he shot at 100!
As we discussed later, a "tactical error" LOL Conditions were defiantly challenging as we finished up, as evidenced by the agg's but that's why we love (hate?) this place!
A big shout out to Jeff and Bill who took care of the setup & teardown and for acting as target crew for the day.
Your help is greatly appreciated, and I can't thank you guys enough.
