Bluing issue

Recieved my new rifle from the smith. Fireforming brass, I notice the PTG steel Remington 700 trigger guard has a spot that the bluing has come off. I thought to myself, what did I get on it? Perhaps a spot of blood or something? Sent it back to the smith to have it redone. Got it back and noticed that there is a witness line where the new bluing is. Just like when you try to repair polyurethane. Always thought you strip it before rebluing?? Handled the firearm for all of an hour and same spot is starting to come off again. Contaminated? I hate to call this guy again. Starting to feel like he short cut the process and it doesn't make me feel good. What do you guys recommend to a customer that isn't happy and doesn't feel like I should have to continue dealing with this. I didn't spend this kinda $ to have it like this and I don't want to call this guy and be a jerk about it either. Thanks in advance for the advice

I hear you Dusty. I'm so rediculously picky that I'm difficult to please sometimes. Im aware of that. But if I were a gunsmith, I don't believe I would have let it go out the door with my name on it without it being perfect (when it left). I can understand a contaminate that wants to be a pain. But what's with the witness line? It's as if he took it out of the box I sent him, degreased it and blued it without any prep work at all. The sheen doesn't match in the spot either. I would have figured it would have been stripped, finished and then blued again. I've got to call this guy tomorrow and I just don't want him thinking that I'm being impossible.

He wants you to be happy. Im sure he was trying to get you going quick. If he gives you a hard time then he doesnt care if youre happy and you should find somebody else. Im also certain he didnt do all that work if he knew it was gonna rub back off that easy.

Good point and good advice. I've never blued anything in my life and I'm not 100% sure of the process. I just thought that when you have to reblue something you strip off the original first. I was a bit upset when I first inspected it and noticed a witness line around the spot that was blued. Now I'm just down right grumpy cause I have to send it to him for the 3rd time now. I paid a premium for bluing even though I polished the action and trigger gaurd by hand. It looked like a diamond when he got it. I didn't want to split the job up so I just paid it.

Its hard to just do one little piece doing it right. It takes a long time to fire everything up and get it right. Im sure he will redo it right if he has plenty of other things to make it worth his while.

I understand. Thanks for chiming in pal. I'll give him a call in the morning. Perhaps I'll just ask him to call me next time he plans on doing a larger job and I'll over night it to him.
