Blue printed factory action or custom action

Blueprinted factory action like Rem. 700 or Custom action what's the real difference, When would someone pick one over another? is it just what one can afford or is it the type of shooting that one does. Be easy on me I'm just trying to learn and expand my understanding

There are at least 5 top notch threads in the last two years on this. In the words of a member here, "buy as many points as you can afford, earn the rest."

There are some epic threads on this topic. Do a search - nothing has changed in this area. Long story short, customs are worth it if you're chasing the last bit of accuracy (BR or F Class), or if you just like nice stuff that's put together right. You can put the effort into a 700 and it will shoot lights out, but you'll still have a 700, which is never going to be a Borden (for example). There are also differences in features that may or may not be important to you - and many of them simply aren't available on factory actions.

Given the life span of an action, the little bit more you'll spend on a custom is a pretty good way to spend money if you ask me - lots of bang/buck.

If you're just shooting coyotes, you don't need a custom at all, but you might still want one.

There are some great buys on used custom guns. That is the route I went with. Last year I decided to enter the VH class & picked up a used Rem. I have no idea what has been done to it but believe it to be competitive & not going to worry about it. The reason I choose it was it was it was cheap & I didn't know if I'd like 6x.
The custom is smother, prettier, & as has been said, will be easier selling later. It doesn't shoot any better. There's to many other variables, mostly the man in the mirror.

IDK 4 sure. I know one gunsmith at our club that only uses Rem 700 actions. If they shoot well. He says, if they work w/o out fussing/blueprinting they are fine. If not, he sells them off. Another smith who built two rifles for me says the customs have an edge. Right now I'm using one of each. This season will tell. My wife has the Rem 700 action & she is getting pretty good with that rifle. I bought a new Stiller/ Shilen action & we use the same barrel "Brux" we shall see. Mike in Ct

I have a 700, trued up and a custom with a Pierce action. The Pierce is much smoother and faster than the 700, but I paid a pretty penny for the smoothness and speed.

Follow up on the mrs. rem 700 & my new Shilen/stiller custom action. We both shoot the 6mmBRX Brux barrels 1/7.5 twist. She fought a hard fight to only tie me every match or lose by one tatget & shoot only 2 less targets during our 2 day LR BR championship. Last match of the season I turned in a new personal best. So not fair to compare that round. It is not the norm for me to place in the top of the pack. That said, I used her rifle/ammo & mine to do some LR testing on paper. Her gun & mine shot very similar groups two dif. days. mike in ct

Custom Action always has more resale ! But it cost more upfront, you have have heard pay it forward. That being said what you get from a dual port action is a cone Bolt Face witch dose feed for more speed a Action you can load on one side a eject from the other of a Drop Port that falls out the bottom ! But that comes with a price, like I said you want a car, you want a fast car, are do you want a convertible with a blonde ! I know a great shooter, mater a fact 3 in St. Louis will be at the top shooting a trued Remington Hunter Class rifle but they are the real deal trued actions by a real true Smith ! Pick your poison mileage will vary !

If you have to buy a Rem 700 and then have it trued you have spent nearly the cost of a custom. Really like my Stiller Predator action and have shot several national records with it!
