Blue Box Lapua necks........

Jim,

Based on a few samples here on my desk, they run about .0130" on average, or about .269" for a loaded round. Pretty close, so you'll definately want to check these once you load the first ones and make sure you've got some clearance.

Hope that helps.

You will probably have to do a very light neck turn for safetys sake.My reamer is at .2705 which seems to work with virgin brass. You will have to remove about .001 from your necks.

I have Kiff's Dasher reamer with a .2704" neck. Unturned Blue-Box brass filled with a 105Hybrid measures .2685". I use a .266" bushing in the die. A little snug in the chamber but it shoots extremely well.

I'm on my ninth firing of brass, annealing every other time.

The lots i have used the neck wall thickness is .012 or less. Some parts of the neck thickness was less than .011...jim

I agree with others, my 3 boxes of blue box all measures different but none larger the 269 loaded most are thinner if anything. So I guess the smart money says measure everything don't rely on what others say measure for yrself better safe than sorry.

Looks like I may have a no turn neck barrel. Will be sure the check the brass when I get it. The barrel was chambered over a year and a half ago
and I did not have any new brass yet. Thanks for all the info. Jim

One thing you might do is have the neck measured to be sure it really is .270. I checked mine with a set of hole gages and mic'ed the hole gage and it was .2708 which gives me enough room to remain a no turn neck with the new brass.

I have a new 6 BR coming with a 270 neck. What is the thickness of the new Lapua brass?

Some blue box brass we received last week measured 0.268 dead on loaded with Lapua 90gr Scenars. It's a little thicker, closer to 0.2685, with some other bullets. The older brown box brass measured 0.269 dead on with Lapua 90gr Scenars for us.

FWIW, I have a .270 neck on my BRDX and I turn for 0.267 loaded round.

What is the neck wall thickness? That is the number you need, not the loaded round, that changes lo to lot and with the bullet maker.........jim
