Went back to the location where I shot the one yesterday afternoon and set up behind the hay blind I put up afterwards.
I wasn't there ten minutes and one of the two (the one that ran off) I was waiting on showed up. I was lucky I spotted it when I did because a second or two later I never would have know it was there. By the time I got the gun up it was gone. It had hightailed it for cover, but I spotted it under an old single axle cart munching on some tall grass. Put the crosshairs of the 17 HMR right on it's left ear and let go the 20 gr XTP. Didn't see it go down, but did see the weeds moving so I was pretty sure I got it.
Walked over and sure enough, it was right where I shot it. Another female. A good size one too.
Here's the post mortem. They sure bleed a lot with the hollow point to the head! Had to pull it out from under the cart to get the ID picture and there was a large puddle of blood.
By the way, the other one was a no show. Just another excuse to come back another night.
