Will try to put this in here, as it is a hunting rifle...
A few years back i owned a Blaser R93 in 270. It has since passed to a proper hunting home, didn't much like the 270 - burned lot's of powder and didn't yield more than a 6,5x55 in my barrel.
This rifle simply workes and accompanied me for some of my best hunting memories
I sold the rifle in with a clever idea in mind, lateer forgot what this idea was, so it didn't turn out to be anything than yet another money-loss project. The new rifle has barrels in 22LR, 6.5x55 and 6.5x284 all chopped to 20" and threaded for moderator.
The plan this time was to shoot a lot and reload as little as possible, hence the 22lr, 6.5x55 and crates of assosciated ammunition. The short 6,5x284 would hopefully give me potent 6,5x55 capacity without the bulk of a long barrel - it did... when I eventually sorted my reloading issues.
I'm no fan of recoil and bruised shoulder, so a Limbsaver recoil pad was aquired and the shoulder healed nicely
An aftermarket trigger was installed. Top quality, but a bit pricey. Very easy to install, if you can do the Blaser barrel, you can do the trigger. Two screws, drop out old/put in new trigger.
A Hillmann cheekrest with some foam gave me proper cheek weld for the different scopes.
Had a lot of trouble getting the 6,5x284 barrel/reloads to shoot. The Lapua 6,5x55 factory shot brilliantly immediately despite the meagre 740 m/sec in the short barrel.
Did a lot of shooting at 100'ish meters. Also logged and phototagged about 1100 shots over the last 3 months. Tedious work, but with ample reward. The rifle turned out to be incredibly stable and predictable.
All the notes was refined and put into a system - on a scope BDC with a Swedish Method log card to support weather changes.
Finally got the 6,5x284 shooting. The short barrel yields approximately 840 m/sec with 140gr Amax and 880'ish m/sec with 120gr bullets. Deer beware!
