Black Talon pistol ammo ?

troupe

Gold $$ Contributor
I came across some Black Talon pistol ammo that I have had stored. It is in 10mm and 45ACP. I have no need for it and I know that there are collectors for something like it. Does anyone have any idea what it is worth. I just don't want to be taken on it. I know that there is great knowledge on this site, even if it not rifle related.

Thanks in advance.

I have samples left over from the Winchester representative who came to our Academy to permit us to evaluate the then popular defensive ammunition. It was one of most fun days shooting as a Firearms Instructor for our Dept, and in the all-time top five of my shooting experiences.
While we focused on the 9MM and .45 ACP offerings, the Rep shared quantities of all the calibers he brought. Thinking back, this was some of the most accurate ammo I had shot up to that point rivaling the Federal 147 gr Hydra-Shok.
Lots of collectors seek out these cartridges, and I have shared some in my stash through trades and as gifts. There is still a lot of them sitting around in cabinets, safes and collections. The value is there.

The brass cased cartridge is from the SWAT Team Cmdr and Senior Instructor for the FBI Office for Central KY at the time. His MP5SD gobbled them up and the bursts were remarkably tight. It has a 127 gr Black Talon projectile and is fairly screaming out of our Colt 9MM NATO Carbines. Ringing the “pepper popper” at 200 yds required holdover, but they got there quickly and the impacts were satisfyingly robust.

same as rem golden sabers also, nothing that special, i have several boxes also.
i believe the same guy designed both talon and sabers.
liberals called them cop killers, so they changed the name to sxt then rangers.

I still have 3 full boxes of 45acp ammo in one of my 50 cal cans. As I remember I bought 6 boxes, sold two and shot up one. They ran nice in my Colt Government pistol. I have seen people online sell this stuff for over $50 a box.

Black Talon was nothing more than marketing hype by Winchester and the arm chair Rambo's went for it hook line & sinker.
Spot on, a great marketing ploy at the time, Then the loonies got onto to it, as A Cop Killer bullet and put a stop to sales of it. Interesting thing about that was the I and many of my fellow officers carried and use it, at the time. Just liked the looks of the black bullet.
Now the same bullet is on the market, as others mentions, but without the evil black coating.
Funny how people can be brainwashed and led astray.

I think the stink about this bullet was more along the lines that it represented malice towards a specific demographic. The libtards that ruled our County nixed it from consideration for a litany of reasons, but they danced around the topic when the bid was awarded to Federal Ammunition in spite of the lower bid by Winchester.
As for Cop Killer, the KTW ammunition built from tungsten and Teflon coated was the most worrisome issue of the 70s. Given the somewhat bulky and (by today’s standards) crude early ballistic vests and the fact that few Officers would wear them even if they could afford them; all bullets fired at Law Enforcement were potential Cop Killers.
Likewise, the Surgeons (backed by a few sensational articles in the AMA publications) were crying out that these “Talons” were rending and ripping flesh like “buzzsaws”.
Statistically, most of the “recipients” of these bullets for the short time they were prevalent were criminals; oh the humanity!
Slight modifications, as noted above, were made through both names and cosmetic appearance, and not much was heard after the final iterations were adopted by the a few of the alphabet agencies. Poof, no more controversy, imagine that.
