Black Powder?!

It seems interesting to me that we have an article on the NRA BP championships and yet there has never been anything about the National Muzzleloading Rifle Assn. Nationals coming up next month, or the North-South Skirmish Assn Nationals this October. Just curious since these are also accuracy oriented organizations.

We've reported on the World Muzzle-loading championships in the past. See:

Re the USA Nationals, I just found some info on the NMLRA site. I'll try to do a report.

If some of our readers are attending, please send updates and/or photos.

That would be an interesting article and am looking forward to it.

Greg,
I come from a heavy background in Traditional ML, There are several other forums that attend to that venue specifically.
This isn't one of them.
This is a fantastic forum for CF Rifle specific info and Data, with all of the vast wealth of knowledge shared about CF and loading here I hardly expect to see anything about ML issues at all.
While there is a heavy following with and at NMLRA and NSSA (don't forget SASS) none of that type of competition compares to whats done in the CF world.
Go ahead and post some links, I'm sure folks will read and perhaps comment, then go on to ask how much neck tention they should use with their 308 small primer Lapua brass and 168 SMK.
(Varget, 4064 or RL-15?)
I'm sure no one is trying to ignore Trad ML or Cowboy action stuff but it's simply a different venue.

There is Atlatl championship too, and quite frequently in the Backwoodsmen mag theres an article about slingshot,, ;)

Necchi, Lot more going on in the Black Powder world than Muzzle Loaders or Cowboy Action shooting. As a matter of fact those two discipline barely scratch the surface of Black Powder Shooting. I also agree complettly with your opinion that Accurate Shooter Forum is not a good place to look for any information on the Black shooting.''Sense you mention links I will provide a couple for anyone who might be interested.

A partial list would include some of the following:
The Quigly Shoot -- Forsyth, Montana
Mile At Least Shot -- Held on the Wassenburger Rance in Montana ( Target is at 1 Mile)
BPCRS Nationals ( Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette) Raton, NM going on NOW
BPCRLR Nationals ( Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Long Range) Raton, NM
Cypher Shoot -- Mexia, Texas

This list is much longer but these are just a few shoots. I didn't even begin to cover all of the events each month and year. In parts of the country there are dedicated Shuetzen Matches still held were smokeless powder is still an evil and they are only for Black Powder.

Muzzle Loaders and SASS cover less than 5% of the shooting being done year round with Black Powder, mostly in Cartridge Rifles.

If you take a some time to browse some of the forums where BP is discussed in earnest you will also come to understand that there are a large number of shooters for which the nickname "Holy Black" is more than a little accurate. They really eschew discussion of anything other than the Holy Black and attack anyone who mentions smokeless to the extent allowed by the mods.

Don't believe me, go over to Castboolits.com and post a question about smokeless in one of the BP forums. Or just brows them and find the other guy who asked the question relating to smokeless in front of the wrong crowd. Your going to get a friendlier reaction selling fried pork rinds Afghanistan. ;D

My point is that a lot of the BP shooters don't seem to be anywhere near discussion of the smokeless abomination so while there may be results posted somewhere around here by in large the group with the most interest is on other boards.
