Birth of a BRA

I got a new Curtis Vector action and just had to do another BRA. Love this round.

After I got it finished, I went outside and shot 5 thru it using some old fire form loads I had been using in my other rifle. First 5 rounds (prone,rear bag).


Then I loosened the set screws on the tenon, pulled the barrel, then reinstalled. No need to remove the action from the chassis or optic. Then shot 5 more full power loads I use in my other BRA rifle at the same point of aim. So that's the first 10 rounds with no load development with a barrel change in between. Pretty excited to say the least.

Not a machinist. Hobby dedication. Lol. I bought this lathe used (1943' SB 10L) about 5 years back without knowing anything about it other than the red lever was likely the power switch. A couple of months and some youtube videos later, I was chambering my own stuff and doing well with it. I only do a handful of barrels a year for myself.

I did the same thing about 7 years ago. Mine is a 65-66’ model 10L. “Tubalcain” (YouTube) taught me about all I know. I “burnt up” one computer watching him and his videos.

I would say based on your tools and gauges (measured runout) used in the video, you have got the hang of it!

I have never found a way to load a go gage to shoot it, so save your money and use a piece of new UNPRIMED brass, as it will give you the most precise headspace measurements. Assuming of course that all your brass has been sized exactly the same.

You can get a bra go gage with your reamer. If you use a regular br gage you need to understand how an ackley chamber works and how to use that gage with your exact reamer. Best to just get the correct gage when you get the reamer. With brass all over the map dont set headspace using that.
