Bipods...?

Besides the blackhawk and harris fold up bipods what better bipods are available? I kind of want something wider.... that mounts to a stud, or mounts on a mount that is fixed to a stud....

ive seen pictures of what i have in mind.. but dont know what brand they are or how good they are... more of an f class type bipod thats fairly adjustable, beefier, not too high....

I don't know anything about these , but it's something to look at . Jim

look at LRA http://www.eurooptic.com/longrange-accuracy.aspx It does not pan like the Altas and weights more but has a wider foot print.

I had always wanted to see one of these and from the pictures they looked pretty nice. A guy brought one up to the range a while back and while it's very nicely made, the whole thing was just clunky and cumbersome and functionally. Unfortunately it really didn't match up to a regular old swivel Harris bipod.

good god they are expensive... but thats about what im looking for...

only thing is it doesnt look like the mounting pice fits with a sling stud.. im not sure how those sling studs are mounted in a manners stock... if they just screw in or if they are fixed... i havent tried to take one off yet...

For a field use bipod, go with the atlas. It is hands down the nicest i have used. For F-class, there are many to choose from. Sinclair, duplins, Mystic, phoenix, Take your pick.

When you say "F Class type" it's difficult to understand fully what you're describing. Some F class events allow for a variety of bipods. I assume, however, that you're looking for one of those bipods that is equipped with skis. In making your decision, keep in mind that the weight of the bipod is included where there are competition weight limits. If your bipod adds 3 pounds to your rifle's "naked weight" that cold be a problem.
That said - I like (but can't afford) this one

Agreed; for F-T/R, look at the Duplin: http://duplinrifles01.businesscatalyst.com/products.htm

A very similar bipod at slightly lower price is the Centershot Bipod, but I do not know if they are available any longer.

I use one of these

http://www.sinclairintl.com/shooting-rests-bipods/bipods-monopods/bipods-adapters/sinclair-tactical-bipod-prod35272.aspx

It adjusts to three widths. Take a look at the pics to see if it's for you. I like the width, but find I need to load it pretty hard.

Sinclair make two bipods that attach to a standard sling-swivel stud. A folding tactical and a wide leg F-Class. Both are very well made.

Atlas bipods are built like tanks but you need an adapter to use them with a stud.

If you are shooting F-Class then there are a number of (expensive) options. Is that what you are looking for?

Call Mark Cheseboro at Cheseboro Rifles in California. He is currently evaluating one that my son and I make. It weighs slightly less than 1/2 pound and is very ridged, has a very wide and forward footprint. There might be a picture of it at: SJR-Enterprises.com

If your just looking to step up in quality from a Harris have a look at an Atlas. I have the QD and I can use it on all my rifles, I even use it for my .460 S&W mag revolver :
