Bipod For F/TR?

Looking for some advice. I realize this question has been asked and answered before, but the threads I found in my search were a couple of years old, and I know new products come out all the time.

Looking to get into F/TR midrange (600yd) shooting, and I've been told my Harris swivel bipod will get the job done, but won't allow me to be competitive. Have no problem buying an new higher-end bipod, but I don't know much about what I should get, and I'm hoping to get some suggestions (pro's and con's) from some of you folks that have already been using them.

The Sinclair 3rd generation bipod seems to be one of the most popular one's out there, but I've also seen many for sale, so that tells me people are selling theirs to upgrade. Is the Sinclair a good option or should I consider something different?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Adrian

SEB Joy-Pod.
Thanks for the suggestion - I wasn't familiar with that bipod. What are the advantages of that bipod? I did also notice it has a $600 to $700+ price tag on it. Are the advantages of shooting with the joystick that much greater that it justifies the $300 to $400+ greater price tag, as compared to the Sinclair bipod ($229)?

Any other bipods I should consider?

The Joy-Pod is $460.00

I'd contact gynergy on this site. He used to make bipods equal to Sinclair in performance, but lighter and IMHO better.

This exactly the information I was seeking. After looking at the bipods recommended, the question I find myself asking is - Joystick or no joystick. It seems like the Seb would be quicker to get back on target each time. However, I'm not familiar with F/TR rules yet. Is the time to re-acquire the target a factor when F/TR shooting?

Seb Joy pod is a good bipod - but you have to get used to/figure out what you want to do with the shaft as it comes back with the recoil - unlike the FO stands. Shooting teams - this is the bipod (IMO) as it is fast and easy for hold off and doesn't require pressure on the rifle to hold off.

Duplins are great - easy to adjust and level and Clint is top notch to deal with.

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. After testing a Sinclair bipod this weekend, I decided to fork up the extra $$ and go with a SEB Joy-Pod. Sent my payment to Earnie Bishop today, as he indicated he had them in stock now. I even ordered one of the pads made to go with it.

Time will tell if I made the right decision, but I'm hopeful that after the learning curve, the joystick approach will yield to quicker and simpler re-acquisition of target after each shot.

Thanks again everyone!

Fedex delivered my Seb Joy-Pod Saturday afternoon. It was delivered in a nice carrying case, which I didn't expect. I also didn't expect it to be sooooo lite! Weight is not an issue for me yet, but it will probably help down the road once I re-barrel my rifle. I mounted it on what will be my ftr rifle, which is a R700 XCR Tactical Long Range with a B&C Tactical Medalist 5 stock. It arrived with everything I needed to attach it to the Anschutz rail on my stock. I took it out to the range for a quick test Sunday morning at my local 100 yard range. I shot it from the bench with my Protektor rear bag - wow! What a "joy" it was to shoot the Seb bipod. It was very easy to manipulate the reticle on the target with the joystick. It's my understanding I can adjust the tension of the joystick, but I was quite happy with the way it came set. After a bit of trial and error with my technique, I got some very respectable results the first time out. I'm really looking forward to shooting it in the prone position - probably this weekend at the 600 yard range (Manatee) on the West Coast of Florida.

Thanks again for all the bipod suggestions. I'm scheduled to do the orientation at Port Malabar next month and hopefully get underway in the world of FTR shooting.

sfldiver...regarding the pad that came with the joypod, check the NRA rule book (F/TR) for platforms suitable for
bipod application. I do not believe the SEB pad qualifies. Also, when you go to Malabar, check with the guys there about that. I believe the NRA is very specific about the footing platform.

The pad is legal for use. SEB does his homework when designing equipment. The pad isn't a board or plate.
