binoculars vs spotting scope

Went PD shooting and had a pair of binos and spotting scope we think we liked the binos better when we were spotting for each other.
Of course our spotting scope was the cheapest POS money can buy.
So we have to upgrade which do you prefer to use??

That is a loaded question! Wide field of view vs. more power? Two eyes vs. just one eye? Navy ships have men stand watch for long hours and a spotting scope would wear you out quickly.
Both have their purpose and you may want to pack each one in you back pack. I use a Marine 10X and a 30X spotting scope as a way to read the wind better for longer shots.

I bought a pair of 25x100mm bins - I love them, but they must be used with a tripod.

If both the spotting scope and binoculars have to use a tripod what is the advantage of using the binoculars over a spotting scope.
I like the idea of using both eyes on the binoculars

There's always the Canon image stabilized binos. A bit pricey, but the IS works. I've got the 18x50s and they're nice.

It is easier to look through bins than a spotter of similar power.

I always tend to prefer my binoculars because I want a big field of view. I am looking for movement and little PD figures standing up on the prarie. I can still identify hits at fairly long ranges and misses are usually easy to read because they make a distinct puff of dust in the dirt. Plus binoculars are much handier to quickly scan and verify if objects are PDs. I usually only use the spotting scope to spot shots if I want to witness the full carnage of the impact up close and personal.

Do any of you use binoculars with adjustable power range so that you can use them at closer and longer ranges.

we use 25x bins now and like xbbr says the tripod it important. if it is not steady you wont be happy. my tripod weighs 20lb.

one of the guys that used to go with us had a set of 30 x bins that were awesome. either the 30 or 25x allow you to set behind them for hours with no eye strain.

this is my 'spotter in training'

Eye fitigue. You can spot much longer with binoculars. I like tripods with any so you can scan or lock onto a target. Much less tiresomemthen trying to hold something. I have a pair of Iowa Highlanders. They are high power but still have a decent FOV. They are 32x and are really clear. Matt

I have never found a pair of adjustable power binoculars that were any good but the Leica Duovids are pretty nice, and pricey. They are two differ powers; 8x+12x42mm or 10x+15x50mm
