There are many great binos out there and the best way to get a good deal is to get them used.

A few days ago I got used (very lightly used in 95%+ condition) Bushnell Legends Ultra HD 8x42 for $40 Canadian Bucks !

They are very good except their sweet spot ( distance that's in focus ) is a little narrow at closer ranges.

Plus the mainline makers will nearly always repair or replace, no questions asked, so the net risk buying used is very low.

Look for "birder" bino's. I have a pair of Swifts 8.5x45 under $500 and compare to $1000 glass. Coatings make a huge difference and the real beauty of good glass is that you can look through them for an hour and not get a headache.

I would recommend Cabelas Euro HD made by Meopta for great glass at a discount. You can catch them in their bargain cave periodically. If you want vortex, I'd lean towards their Razor line.

I've owned the Razors and they are great glass, but I now own the Cabelas 10x32 Euro HD (aka Meopta Meostar B1 HD) and absolutely love them. Best glass out there for the money

I'll tell you folks another affordable binocular I was really impressed with for the money is the Zeiss Terra ED 10x42. Bought a pair for my son and they are probably the best glass I've seen in that price range. Razor sharp and excellent in low light.
