Big'un

12 lb.'er.JPG It rained this afternoon, the first in a while, and then got sunny and calm out. Drove to a farm that had harvested wheat that the Chucks seem to like cleaning up after. Bingo, they planted beans! With the moisture and new shoots it was "Hog Heaven" however shooting through the trees at 5-600 yards proved challenging but I did recover a couple of pups. I drove over to the farm, due to the flooded creek from the rain, to survey the damage. While there they kept coming out so out comes the AR in 6.5 Grendel and nails this one from the BogPod at 182 yards. The 100 grain Sierra HP at 2840 fps didn't even exit! Came in at 12 lbs. even.

That is indeed a nice one!
I have had big ones like that stop bullets inside them also. Did you try and recover the bullet to check it out?
Gary

Nice hog. 2840 is gettin with it for a 100 gr in a grendel, isn't it? I like that case, but not much on the factory rifles it's served up in at the moment.

Nice "harvest"! I whacked an 11 pounder yesterday. We should start seeing some well fed ones now. 14# 9oz my biggest last year.

Nice shooting - monster hog. I got a couple of monsters in June but most have been under 10 lbs since then.

Saw a monster on Saturday but missed at 217 yards with my Rem Model 7. Had made the same shot on another smaller hog just 30 minutes earlier - Go figure - diminishing skills I guess. :( Going back tomorrow on a revenge hunt.

80 - 21 - 2 so far this season (confirmed kills - misses - wounds)

That's about as big as I have ever seen . When I was a kid , I got one with my trusty German Shepherd . I was out picking berries and happened to walk between this huge Chuck and his hole . The Chuck made a dash towards his hole & me and my German Shepherd moved like lightning . He grabbed that Chuck and I can still hear the sound of Chuck bones breaking . That was such a big Chuck that I carried him to the old Farmhouse and put him on our Scale . As I recall it was also around 12 pounds , but who knows how accurate that old Scale was . I have seen 2 totally Black Chucks over the years , and 1 was in that same field . Never did see a white one . My GrandMa used to bake the Chucks in an old Wood Stove with Vegetables . Kind of a dry , dark meat as I recall . There was also some kind of Cold/ Cough Remedy she made from the Chuck Fat which was rubbed on your Chest . We also had dried Puffball Mushrooms which stopped bad cuts by spraying the Spores on the cut . Times sure change .

Not sure about the groundhog's weight, but the pictured revolver is a Ruger 4 5/8" Blackhawk .45 Colt I rebuilt. Saw him sneaking along my fence line and the Ruger was handy.00C2488F9829469292B004EEC72155D4.jpg

Mr. Majestic: Nice shot there buddy with that .44! That's a good "lights out"!

Can't compete with that monster, but I'll offer a nice fat badger for the "western offering". He fell to my Kimber .45 CDP with my Kimber 5" .22LR conversion unit installed, launching WW 40gr HP Power Points.

It's always fun to pop something larger than a squirrel with a handgun. :)

(I see a red-dot on that Ruger....just got a Kimber Aegis Elite Custom 5" 9mm 1911 with a Vortex Venom red-dot....and I'm lovin' it big time!)
