biggest 5 shot group size for prairie dog shooting.

Most fun is 50 cal muzzleloader, open sights, and load that does @ 2" groups at 100 off the bench. Most memorable shot was at a rock chuck laying flat on a rock about 75 yards out. All I could see was his face looking at me. I set his face on top of the front size, touched the trigger set, let out a breathe, and just touched the aft trigger. At the shot, the smoke rolled and the audible THWACKPfffftttttttt sounded. The slight breeze rolled the smoke out of the way enough to allow us to see pieces raining down. Turned that chuck inside out.

You will get opinions from A to Z and they are all viable. The thing is, you can shoot about anything you have and have a great time doing it.

My nickel's worth.

My PD guns are as follows: an old Ruger Bearcat, a Glock .45 acp, and Marlin 25 in .22 LR with 4x weaver, and a 700 Remington in .243 with a 6x Weaver. I may shoot the rifles off stick once in a while . Mostly I used the PD's as reactive shooting practice. I do not feel the need to have a clicker to total my kill for the day. I just get a lot of field type shooting practice and enjoy the time on the prairie. None of the above guns will hold a 1/2" group at a 100 yds. and yet a fair number of pd's find their demise.

Yes. The wind is a bugger in PD fields. It's a huge challenge. Adding yet another variable with a gun that may not shoot where you point it makes no sense to me. A half-MOA rifle may not be necessary but you won't catch me using a gun that puts a bullet somewhere in a 4" circle at 400 yards.

Fighting windage is tough enough. Why fight your rifle too?

New here, sorry if wrong place. What trigger do you recommend for AR, when shooting p-dogs?
I have a CZ with set trigger, but 4 bullets per magazine spend too much time reloading magazines.
AR has 7# trigger and plenty of travel.
I can't figure out which trigger to purchase, too many to choose from.
Suggestions are appreciated.

What twist on the 6br? 3900 is 60kpsi Dasher velocity!
I shoot 27-28" 12 twists, zero freebore, and aa2230 is the reason for the speed, even faster in a 6 BRX that I have...accuracy is unbelievable. If you have a long freebore, no way you are going to get these velocities with super accuracy...too much gas blow by. Gene Harwood sat a world record with his 60's doing 3700 fps out of a 24" Max heavy varmint rig in the mid 80's using H335 and Rem 7 1/2's in Remington brass. Barrel life with H335 or AA2230 is 8000 rounds or better if shooting in the 2's will satisfy you, but if you go with H322 barrel life is a lot less with less velocity also. We shot a five gallon bucket of ammo with each 6 BR rifle, and 6 BRX(6BR reamer ran in deeper from 1990-1993)...p. dog wars, firing around 24-26K per year, each.
