Bigger bullet hole theory

It wold be a club match, just for the fun of it. The majority of the shooters who attend our Club Matches have some type of 6 mm. Usually a 6PPC.

I think it would be fun.

Jackie, that would sort of be a throwback to when you started holding the Tomball club matches; a long time ago!

Randomizing the scoring method.

I wonder if any local club has tried to run score matches with the "scoring method of the day" announced only after registration and lane assignments are done. The decision to score (that day) best or worst edge is then done by the flip of a coin.
It would be interesting to run a year long season like that I think, if nothing else for a change.

That sounds like a recipe for having zero attendance at the next match. Or possibly everyone bringing 2 rifles.

The controversy is not about best or worst edge scoring. It’s about the “advantage” that the 30 caliber has over all smaller calibers in the current NBRSA and IBS Formats.

The brutal truth is this would all be a moot point if the darned short 30’s were not so deadly accurate.

I agree with you. But there is another consideration I am aware of. Shortly after the 30 hit the scene there was a noticeable drop off in score shooters for reasons that don't need rehashed for the hundredth time. Just think if a UBR type target had been adopted back then and instead of losing shooters, they would have stayed in the game. It was a big mistake then and it has a legacy that lives on....less shooters....less clubs.

If all the guys sitting at home getting fat slurping beer and stuffing chips that had a rifle got out and shot you would be correct. But on the other hand those that do participate are a great group of shooters having a good time. We all make choices. Anyone shooting score when the 30BR hit knows what I am saying. Young guys are going for the various bang bang and steel games, requires less refinement in accuracy and loading technique but.at least they are out there competing.

Ok , people I think who have shot 30s. Myself, John Shoeman Steve and Shelly Brennan, Greg and Brandon Shaw, Steve Strouse, John Marr, Jamie Eazor, and Alvin Lee come to mind real quick.

Or simply no interest. Up here in Erie Pa. within just a 1/2 hour drive
I can get to 15 ranges, The 3 that shot BR, only one does so, and that's
only a 100 yard range, non sanctioned league. This club only has 6 guys
showing up anymore. There is no fresh blood coming into the sport to
debate the bigger bullet theory.

Every few years this topic comes up so this pdf has it charted out for IBS/NBRSA and UBR targets.

This was done to satisfy my own curiosity and not to promote one sanctioning body over another.

The bigger bullet hole has an advantage but as the scoring rings become larger the advantage becomes less.
However, we are all trying for the X.

The scoring rings need to get smaller, it will separate the men from the boys. If our sport was only those shooting sanctioned matches it would be totally irrelevant. What keeps it going are the large amount of club matches. I realize the lure of shooting in "National Championships", I have done it and enjoyed it. Who knows, might do it again. But really, who cares? You and the other 60 guys who attended. No different than a local club match. But add up all the relays shot nationwide at Sanctioned Matches vs Club Matches, not even close. So I guess the real answer is....As long as the rules are the same for all, the matches are ran fair and honest, all these topics we endlessly debate are irrelevant. Get out and shoot, support whatever group or club that works for you, and enjoy our sport. Oh, don't forget to get involved and help with the work at the shoots you enjoy. No workers equals no shoot.

Good post for sure. Lots of wisdom in here. Anyone who has ever held a match knows the work involved. Never forget to thank your match directors.
