Big Wood Box of Lake City M72

I picked this unopened crate of Lake City M72 Match ammo at an Estate Sale last weekend.
Curious on what this all-knowing crowd thinks its value is. The crate is marked 800 cartridges.

Thank you in advance.

About 2 years ago, I acquired 2 boxes of the M-72 from a retired shooter in the Houston area. I shot it in my custom ‘06, 1-9 twist 25 inch long Krieger barrel, and it was traveling at an average 2650 over my Ohler 35 chronograph with around 3/4 MOA 3 shot groups at 100 yards.

I considered that about par for a out of the box round.

As was said, it is popular with the ‘03 crowd, and I think the going rate was around $1.25 a round before Covid and Biden.

We have a Military Rifle shooter in our Club, I will text him so he can look at your post.

I offered several cans of M2 ball at $1 a round and it sold almost instantly. Sold it specifying pickup at a match I was going to. Shipping is a pita and expensive.

Years ago, when I had an M1A rifle, I acquired a large 720-rd wood crate of Austrian-made Hirtenberger 7.62x51 ammo. I shot about 80 rounds and the stuff showed excellent accuracy and the brass was good.

After I sold the M1A, I sold the remaining 640 rounds and got about $500.00 I think. Times change.

This is NOT my crate, but this is similar to the Hirtenberger crate I got with big vinyl, waterproof bags inside.
