Big Ol' PA Groundhog.

Hey there everyone. Here is a pic of a big old PA whistler I whacked the other evening. This old boy has been giving me the slip for a couple weeks. I finally got a 52gr A-Max in him before the hay got high enough to hide him again. Almost too high now. This sucker weighed in at 15#. My heaviest to date I believe. The Tikka is a 22/250 with a 4X-16X Weaver 1/8min DOT scope on top. Nice and light for carry, nice and accurate too.

Nice looking field Frank! Hmmm, ever take a buddy huntin'? What you shootin' there buddy? Good looking rig too.

Hey Austin. That is a rest that I make. I call it the "Pogo Stick." It is very solid and of stainless steel, so it won't rust under sweaty hands. The rifle hook, or support, slides up and down the main stem and secures with the knob. It has 2 prongs you tramp into the ground and is VERY stable. It is shiny, but I have been using this one since about 1983, and I can't say I have noticed it spooking any whistlers. Before I had an actual bench to shoot off of, I used it to sight rifles in. I would lay down and use a sand bag under the butt stock. worked just fine. Then I got all fancy and up to date and started using a bench. When I was really into the groundhog hunting in the 80s, I would carry a small sandbag in a fanny pack for the rear of the gun. If I got down on a whistle pig like that with the old 700V in 6mm,it was all over for said whistler. In those days I had a long shot of 565yds. Measured with the old Ranging 1,000. Not a laser, but a long shot none the less. Bet you are sorry you got me started aren't you? Enough rambling. You all have a great weekend,Ridge.

That is a big hog. There's nothing better than finally tagging the elusive rodent who has been giving you the slip.

Thats a monster. Damn I bet the hit sounded like a hanging sheet whacked with a baseball bat.
I live for that sound..

Love the rest.

Yep, that's pretty much what it sounded like. Kinda like a pillow case full of Cream of Wheat. The gun cracks, a little jump of the scope, then the sound we all want to hear,PLLLOPPP! Gotta love that.
