I'm fortunate enough to live outside Atlanta with enough land for my own 1 bench 50yd rimfire range, but that is still not optimal when it's 35 degrees and raining.
Back when I was well off (before the housing depression) I actually started to explore what an indoor range would cost. I got as far as having my insurer investigate and started looking for properties, when...bang....I lost nearly everything. Not complaining... I got out with more than others.
Before Chickenfoot (100 miles), I had to drive 300 miles to a small NC (The Barn) town to shoot 50yds indoor.
It seems that living outside a city of nearly 5 million, someone would have come up with the idea for a large indoor range.... something that would accommodate both rimfire, and air. There are dozens of vacant Ingles stores and commercial properties that sit idle for years. Some of these places would accommodate 50-100 benches, and could attract major competitions from a variety of rimfire and air disciplines, not just benchrest. But I guess that's a pipe dream, and I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell me why. I believe there are some major facilities of this size in Europe. Are there any in the U.S. ?
I'd still like to see it. I'd live there during the winter, and if a/c 'd you'd see me a lot in the summer.
