Big Boy Muzzle Brake Question

Bully

Silver $$ Contributor
My buddy is having a 408CT built for him. He has seen and likes a particular brake but is looking for some more options for the rifle.

For those that shoot it regularly or have shot it, what brake would you recommend for the 408?

Thanks.

Thanks jlow. I'm familiar with that test but am taking my buddy's word on it, that the 408CT is a different beast. So, I posted here looking to help him out. I do appreciate the input, however.

Topher:

Correct, the PRB testing was not at all applicable since most of those manufacturers do not produce a brake appropriate for CT-class rifles, and the manufacturers that do did not have a model tested (to even look further).

I have a long list of brakes on my site - http://elr-resources.com/page3.html

Based on my experience, I'd suggest looking at the AR-50 brake that is used with the Armalite .416 Barrett and the Terminator T6 (Terminator is made in New Zealand but they have a reseller in the US - their site is not current in re the T6, call). For the money and effectiveness, I know of no solution better than the AR-50, min $100 less than the T6. Please note that all of the huge brakes produce huge concussion. Proceed accordingly.

After shooting a friend's 408 with a Terminator T4 brake, that's what I went with on my 338/408 CT rifle. I should have that up and running to test fire in the next week or two. I have a T5 that just showed up for another CT project I'm working on.

The 16# 408 with a T4 brake was more comfortable to shoot than my 14# 375 RUM imporved with an APS Pain Killer Brake on it. I was very impressed.

Contact Vestals Gunsmithing as they build a lot of 408's and 375 Cheytacs. I believe they have a website and/or Facebook page.
