Bi-Pod stability

I am looking to up grade my bipod . There are a lot of models out there to choose from I know.
I am thinking that the models with the legs right under the stock would induce hop. And one of the
designs that has the wide foot stance, when at the top would seem to be unstable..

Have any of you found this to be true about the characteristics of these designs. And which design you
use and which one ?

thx for your reply's

I have an Atlas QD. It seems to be better stability than the lower end Harris and Blackhawks. Far better quality (USA made). I like to attatch my shooting mat straps to the bipod's legs, then load the bipod slightly with my shoulder. This for me has reduced bipod jump quite a bit. However you need to get the positioning of the bipod "perfect" or when you load the bipod the straps can pull your rifle slightly off target. I shoot dam smooth with my precision .308, but still get some serious hop no matter what I do with my precision .300WM !

I had never seen or heard of the Flex Bipod until this past Sunday at Bayou Rifle 1K yard match. A man by the name of Jade Delcambre was using it and I was scoring for him. The first thing I noticed was that the bipod flexed when he leaned into it, and I like to lean into mine. The second thing I noticed is that it had feet to grip the mat he used. The third thing I noticed was that it didn't hop all over the place like my Sinclair. The last thing I noticed was that Jade won the match with a 594-26X.

I bought one yesterday.

Kindest regards,

Joe

Forum member "Gnergy" makes a heck of a nice bipod out of aluminum that is adjustable for height with a threaded rod. Contact him via PM and he can fill you in. Very nice unit! I use it off the bench and shooting varmints in prone position. Very stable..

This is personal preference but the Sinclair Tactical bipod is the one that fits my shooting style the best. I have competed with it along side people with full rest set ups and it works. ;)

Flex Podder here as well. I converted earlier this year. It is the 4th different bipod I have tried. Love it.

This is assuming you mean bipod for F/TR.

second on using Gnery bipod, stable as a brick house an "NO need to load the bipod"
Especially if you would rather remove a variable in shooting.
I have seen some of the flex pods in action an was impressed, as well as seen the user forget to apply the same amount of preload an have vertical shots everywhere.
not saying they arent good, but I prefer a wider stance that will allow the rifle to slide during recoil vice hop everywhere

I also use the Flex-Bipod.....Once i get in position and start my string i never let off of the shoulder pressure i started with, i never break my position during the string......I have my spotting scope setup where i just turn my head into it and my ammo box is right next to me.......Its second nature now and of all the bipods i've tried this one gives me the tightest vertical at distance once set-up properly and used like it is intended......It works really well for me but i know several guys that tried it and didn't like them at all and went back to ski bipods.....To each his own, whatever works for you is what needs to be used.

As for bipod hop, if someone is getting hop with a flex bipod they aren't using it right......You can watch my rifle during recoil, feet don't move at all throughout the string and thats with 185s, 200s, or 215s.

F/TR is correct.. I use a harris now, it's not bad but, it's not wide enough for me fully compressed..

thx guys keep the comments coming. And on the flex pod are the points of attachment closer to the center
balance of the rifle? And would this help the others?

emn83, i pm'ed gnergy about the price and availability of his unit waiting on a response and looking into the flex pod too...

thx JP

Daniel Pohlable is the designer/fabricator of the Flex Pod. He is "Ohiodan" on this forum. One of the better shooters I've ever shot with. And a good guy to boot.
Flex Pods run $200 bucks and well worth every penny. If they were twice that I'd still buy one.

Contact info is danielp@earthlink.net

If you buy one tell him I sent you, I'd hate for Russell or Jade to win Salesman of the month again!

One thing to consider is weight. I've only weighed one that was lighter and it hopped.
