best WHITE TAIL scent attractant?

I spray my shoes and pants from the knee down. Clothes stay outside hanging from branches in a yew tree and if rain is in the forecast, they go in a tub I keep outside. Having said that, I know guys that get off work smelling like Gomer Pyle at the filling station, smoke, chew or do snuff, get in a tree stand and archery and gun kill deer on a regular basis.
I know a family that drank beer and dipped all day and didn't take a bath for a week. they were the best group of hunters that i have known, LOL

Just talked about this today. Got off work in time to make it to the camp, parked at the gate walked to a lock on stand on the edge of a food plot, fifteen minutes later two ole does come in and one of um ended up in the freezer thanks to a Hoyt and a carbon express arrow with a hundred grain vortex broad head. All while wearing Justin steel toe work boots a pair of Fire retardant coveralls and a ole vine brothers ball cap. Not to mention I had been in Exxon refinery all day.

As I commented earlier, I use mock scrapes regularly. I guess by using the
VS1 or Deer Dander, it is using scents or attractants. I've tried it without mock scrapes and licking branches and the results are night and day. The mock scrapes work with those scents and attractants but for me, they haven't as just used in other ways. I typically have all the local bucks visit those scrapes every year on camera and non local bucks during the rut. To me, that's huge and can be very effective when hunting. BTW, my step son smokes and often times does while in his tree stand. He kills bigs bucks most years

I smoke and I used to hunt from a tree stand. Once settled in my stand I would light up my pipe and blow smoke to check the wind, don't believe what you feel.
The smoke would almost always start to drift and drop in the direction you thought it was going then all of a sudden it would swirl and take off the opposite direction. I also use to put my hunting clothes where the dog sat in my truck while driving to hunting area. Using his scent instead of mine kept the deer more at ease. Killed 26 deer from the same stand in 12 years both archery and gun seasons.
Never had luck using attractants. Marketing ploy.

I think suburban deer tolerate human odors ( smoking, fuel, domestic animal and other non natural odors) better than say deep woods or back country deer do. If human interaction is more common in suburban or farm country deer, they'll tolerate those smells a bit better. They still are tough to trick but will allow some human scent to be as normal in their lives vs deer that have little or no human contact except in hunting seasons.

Rag weed. Break it up rub it on yourself and keep some in the stand. Now your eyes can water and it will keep you awake from trying not to sneeze.
The deer we hunt smell humans all the time.. If the wind is wrong they know I'm in the stand.. If the wind is right then they don't know..

Years ago I had a 2 stroke 4x4 that I used Klotz oil in. Boy did it smell good, but boy did it spook deer. Never got a deer that year lol

Farm country deer!
Been many killed while sitting on a John Deere tractor parked in the middle of a rye grass field also.

Just my .02, but I do not believe in cover scents. A whitetail's nose is easily capable of smelling multiple different scents at the same time. You have to hunt the wind, period.
As far as attractants, I think they might be effective for positioning the deer but I doubt they really pull a deer in. In fact I think they may do more harm than good by the time you stink the place up while placing the attractant.

Lots of old thinking here. Newish products on the market dilute the human scent to the point to where those long nose does and coyotes pay your scent no attention. I have been an avid Coyote hunter for 30+ years, been busted so many times till I started using a very inexpensive product called Forget the Wind, which is scent control.

Yes, you can fool a coyote's and long nose doe's nose. Now, grunt and rattle, watch the action with bucks circling your ladder stand 6 or more times. A year's worth of the product is around $20, best money a predator or deer hunter will ever spend. My entire family and many of my friends use the Forget the Wind, avid bow hunters, trophy deer hunters. Fooling a coyotes and hogs nose is also a tricky thing to do.

Many times, I have had deer and coyotes come to my call and never even suspect me being on the planet. Several years ago, I was in Kansas and rattled up a big buck. He circled my stand trying to find who had shorted and rattled. Finally, he let out a big snort. Another 120 class deer came in. They fought for 2 hours, and I had 22 deer within 30 yards of me. At one point, I thought I was going to have to shoot one of the bucks or else have them knock over my ladder stand as they pushed each other back and forth.

The day before, I rattled in 7 Bucks to my stand, they all circled, got bored and left. Not one of the bucks ever smelled me, and my back pack that had been sprayed with Forget the Wind was laying up against the back side of my ladder stand. One doe that came in with a buck, laid down right at the base of my ladder stand while the buck laid down about 30 yards in front of me.

I was hunting 150 class deer and better, I let all these deer walk.

Coyote hunting, I have had so many instances of coyotes walking right down the same cow path I had just walked down, they never smelled me. I had sprayed down with Forget the Wind, sprayed the bottom of my boots. I have been able to kill 8 coyotes with a Kimber 45 and a Ruger GP100. I had a lot more years hunting coyotes without Forget the Wind than With, and I know the difference. You do not have coyotes come walking down the path you walk in on, time after time after time...without Forget the Wind.

So, many stories. When you dilute your scent to where an animal pays you no attention, you are in for a new hunting experience. Problem is that it takes effort, and the concept is new.

I am not affiliated in any way with George or Forget the Wind in Ok, 405-843-3431.

At one time, I used Tinks Doe in Heat Urine, killed some monster bucks. Today, it is illegal due to possibly spreading Cronic Wasting Disease.

So, instead of just sitting waiting for deer to come in, call them in, then stack the deck where they WILL NOT SMELL YOU!
