Best weight bullet

Which are you shooting, 100 yards or 1,000 yards?

I tend to use lighter, flat based bullets for 300 yards and closer.
400 yards+ i use a heavier boat tailed bullet.

I was looking for one bullet to do it all. I am thinking of trying Scenar 139's
The Scenar isn't a bad bullet but many others passed it by with higher BCs which help a lot at longer ranges in the wind. Look at the 140 ELDs also and try them. The G1 of the 139 Scenar is .578 and the 140 ELD is .646. That's a big difference.

Not always that way and why some testing should be done. I would test those two 140s and forget the 139s.
It’s about what your rifle shoots best with. A better BC bullet may not shoot well in a particular rifle. To exclude a certain bullet just because it’s BC is not as good as another limits the possibility of finding what your rifle likes best IMO.

Yes about finding what shoots best but also what will give better odds at hits at longer ranges also. Picking a bullet with a good BC and also accuracy is the best IMHO. That’s why I said look at the two 140s. I would also look at the 147 eld and the 142 SMK also. Plenty of bullets can shoot and still have good BCs.

I agree with, there are plenty of bullets that can shoot good. With steel shooting those competitors use what win that style of shooting and beating the wind plays a part. I shot Steel for a few years and had the same view. I got old and fat and can’t do the run and gun anymore so I forced on Percision shooting. I enjoy the wind, it’s always a learning experience and make things challenging. I just wanted to help the OP with options and he had mentioned the 139 gr bullets which shot better in my rifle than the 140 ELDM’s. Learning the wind is one key factor shooting long range and you can accomplish that with any bullet that shoots great in your rifle.

But it's easier to shoot in the wind with a bullet that's not being pushed as much by it. Other bullets than the 140 ELD fall into that group. Anything in 140 range and under .6 BC is giving up advantages and the sport is hard enough without handicapping yourself more. ;)
