Best way to make 6x47 Lapua brass?

From my understanding 6x47 Lapua brass can be formed in one step with a full length sizer die. I have also read where it is better to use a bushing die and step it down gradually. Obviously one way would be much faster than the other but that's not important.

Is stepping it down gradually the better route? Also, must the cases be fireformed after necking down from 6.5x47 Lapua or are they ready to go after being sized?

This will be my first go at "wildcatting" so to speak. I have never necked up/down a case before so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i just run the parent brass through a forster fl die load and shoot for the first firing i use a near max book load this blows the cases out with a neat shoulder- they dont get wasted as they are very accurate.

mr.big I spoke to Redding this morning and ask them the very same question. I was told that I would have to get a FL die, but he thought that the bushing neck die and the seating die would work. I am figuring on getting more info at their booth this coming week, mainly because a good while ago I asked the same question and if my memory serves me right, I believe I got a different answer.
I think my email is listed in my profile. You can drop me a line the week after the shot show and I will let you know what I found out. I intend on spending some time at their booth as I have several things to discuss with them about a future build

you would have to change your expander also as that would have the 6.5mm one in it.

I just run mine through my Whidden non bushing die, then onto the bushing die. I am running a no turn neck also.

My bushing die won't completely size neck at junction with shoulder, had to go to a FL die. These are Forster dies.

So what would the step by step process look like from start to finish?
1st: Size new cases with F/L die (Remove firing pin and feel for minute resistance while closing bolt)
2nd: Load with 38.5 grains (my load, but I have a fast barrel) of H4350, 450 primer, 105 something, and shoot.
Final step: Clean cases and do it again (I turned my necks for a 50% clean up with a 21st Century N/T tool. Turned into the shoulder to preclude a donut).

I added my answers on your post. I size fireformed cases with a Whidden F/L bushing die. The Forster F/L non bushing die was used just for initial sizing.

I just lightly lube, run through non bushing full length die set where its not bumping the shoulders back any further.
Then I run through the bushing die. Trim and chamfer as needed. I'm running the same load with new brass and fired brass with no difference. It's going to be my go to PRS caliber also. Still anxiously waiting on the lefty Mausingfield. I think I'm going to do a long action 284 also.

I just ran my new 6.5x47 brass through my new 6x47 Redding type S bushing die, with a .269 bushing, done. They chambered up just fine, mine is a .271 no turn neck.

i did use the first firing for load development but because i know a few 6x47 shooters my powder/bullet combo was a very small list -proven- so blowing the cases out i used the load data provided and they worked out very accurate iirc i shot 50 new lapua cases in a 600yd f class shoot and another 800yd f shoot cant recall the scores but didnt get my ar£e kicked. 2nd firing after trimming and fettling i shot a 600yd bench rest match and came 3rd in light gun.its a lot of fun is the 6x47

My die set came with a body die instead of a FL die. I simply ran the 6.5 brass into the body die and it brought the necks almost all the way down to 6. Finished off with my bushing neck die. I didn't bother to measure the necks.

The parent case is the 6.5x47 Lapua

If you can't find a bushingless 6x47L FL die, a bushingless 6BR FL die will work fine, you just need to back it out.

After you neck down with your full length resizer, is there a small area at the neck shoulder junction that does not get sized? If so do you trim it off or do you leave it? I would be interested in seeing a picture of that, just after running it through the full-length resize or only
